"By George," is a fully refitted Island Trader 37 sloop designed by William Garden and built by Tung Hwa boatyard in Taiwan. This heavy, traditional full-keel cruiser underwent an exhaustive, stem-to-stern transformation by SEA Marine in Port Townsend, Washington in 2017.
Below are highlights to her major modern upgrades, including:
- Mechanical and Structure: a new Beta 38 engine, premium Awlgrip hull paint, low maintenance nonb-skid decks and all new bronze seacocks.
- Rigging and Canvas: a new aluminum mast with the Tides Marine Strong Track system, new standing and running rigging, bronze chainplates, a comprehensive new sail inventory ( Main, Genoa, 125% Jib, Yankee and Spinnaker) and a fresh Dodger and Bimini.
- Systems: a comprehensive mechanical rewire, Magnum Inverter Charger, completely updated plumbing and tankage and a modern electric Jabsco head.
- Interior and Hardware: Eleven new heavy duty bronze opening portlights, now custom interior cushions, a fresh overhead headliner, and upgraded stainless steel safety rails and lifelines.

Under Sail: stiff stable and comfortable in heavy weather with an easy motion, though slow when pointing upwind due to its broads beam and heavy displacement.
Performance: Powered by Beta Model 38 four cylinder, fresh water cooled, naturally aspirated diesel engine producing 38hp coupled to a Twin Disc marine gear, a 1 ½” stainless alloy propeller shaft, a PSS dripless shaft seal and a three-blade fixed bronze propeller. The engine was installed new in 2017 and now has 369 hours on it.

The original teak deck was removed and new decks built with layers of fiberglass resin and cloth laminate, then painted with fine new non-skid surface. All deck hardware was removed and rebedded when reinstalled.
