Festina Lente features the optional cutter rig, and is ready to head to the islands. If you are in the market for a cruising sailboat you will be truly impressed with the amount of volume this 29' pocket cruiser offers.  With almost an 11' beam, and 6' 4" headroom she is very roomy below.  Her cockpit is massive, even when compared to many 32-34' boats.

The Island Packet build quality is far above the competition.  This boat can take you anywhere!

The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 1996 Island Packet 29 is a well-regarded cruising sailboat known for its solid construction and comfortable accommodations. Here are some of the key pros and cons:

Pros

Sturdy Build: Island Packet Yachts are known for their robust, hand-laid fiberglass construction, providing durability and long-lasting performance.

Comfortable Interior: The 29 offers a spacious and well-designed interior for a boat of its size, with ample headroom and practical layout, making extended cruising enjoyable.

Seaworthy Design: With a full keel and moderate displacement, the Island Packet 29 is stable and handles well in a variety of sea conditions, ideal for coastal and offshore cruising.

Easy Handling: The sail plan and rigging are designed for manageable single or short-handed sailing.

Good Storage: Plenty of storage space below decks for gear and provisions, which is valuable for longer trips.

Cons

Moderate Speed: The full keel and heavier displacement mean the boat is not designed for speed; it sails comfortably but more slowly compared to lighter, fin-keel designs.

Limited Cockpit Space: The cockpit is functional but somewhat small, which may be less ideal for socializing or handling crew during maneuvers.

Older Systems: As a 1996 model, some onboard systems and equipment may require upgrades or maintenance depending on the boat’s history.

Trailerability: While the Island Packet 29 is trailerable in theory, its size and weight make overland transport challenging and not practical for frequent moves.

Made For

The 1996 Island Packet 29 is ideal for sailors seeking a comfortable and reliable cruising sailboat. It’s perfect for those who appreciate a sturdy, well-crafted vessel designed for coastal cruising and extended weekend getaways. With its spacious interior and easy handling, it suits couples or small families looking for a blend of performance, safety, and classic styling on the water.
