Legendary Ray Hunt 52 Sport Fisherman Design Built to High Quality Standards

C. Raymond Hunt needs no introduction in the world of yacht design. He is credited with the innovation of the "Deep V" hull design made famous by Bertram in their Offshore Powerboats.

"Ranger" was built by Ballanger Boats, a custom boatbuilder in Lahina Hawaii and lanched in 1984 under Ray Hunt's supervision. The hull is Airex PCV closed cell foam core with FRP inside and outside laminates, almost bullet-proof hull construction. The deck is "glass over wood". Conventional deckbeams with laminated wood skins provide strong, light sections. The flybridge is "one off" foam construction with fiberglass skins inside and out. The internal keelson runs full length and serious stringers run most of the way from the bow to the transom. Structual build quality is substantial.

This boat was built for fishing for Marlin and Swordfish. She was used for many years in Hawaii and then relocated on her own bottom to the Pacific Nw for fishing in Alaska.

"Ranger" has two Detroit 8V71's providing power to 4 blade propellers resulting in a top speed about 30 kts. All day cruise speed is probably in the high teens to low 20's at reasonable fuel burn. A 7.5 Kw generator provides AC power at sea.

Below accomodations are full galley, day head with shower and main salon with U shape dinette. Sleeping arrangments are two steps down from the salon in one cabin with two long double size beds either side of center line. This cabin shares a center mounted head. There is additional sleeping arangements for one on the settee in the main salon and two in the Flybridge.

There are two large clothing lockers and two other lockers for provisions or gear.

Running and piloting is done on the flybridge. Room for about 6 in the FB, its mostly business. This boat is designed for catching fish. An enclosed hardtop was added after the boat came to the Nw for Alaska fishing, its suitable.

The cockpit is big, room for several anglers or guests. Transom door is big for bringing fish onboard. A live bait well is located centerline aft in the cockpit.

"Ranger" is still in her orginal layout with the exception of the hardtop, with most of her orginal equipment. She is worthey and ready for a refit by a knowledgable buyer who understands what this boat is and prepared to bring her to contemporary standards.

There are a few ledgendary boats that deserve the time, money and work that it takes to refit a boat of this stature, "Ranger" is one of them.

When you're done and people ask "what kind of boat is that" you can tell them the story or... you can leave them wondering what they just saw.
