COMPLETE REFIT IN 1991

Holy Mackerel was rebuilt from the keel up by renowned boat builder and renovation expert Tom Slane in 1991. Slane was commissioned to rebuild this classic 53c Hatteras to ‘like new’ condition and he and his workers proceeded to strip out the interior to the stringers and rebuild in light oak giving it 3 staterooms, 2 heads, a modern galley and salon. All new wiring and plumbing came with the job. They replaced the flybridge, built a custom console, added a new tower and outriggers, and tricked out the cockpit with a custom tackle center, bait freezer, live baitwell, teak cockpit sole, teak covering boards and fighting chair. Then they gave the entire boat a new paint job. The engines were also rebuilt increasing the horsepower by 35 percent over the standard 650hp.

And the upgrades have continued in recent years with a new generator installed, new teak cockpit, engines rebuilt, new cockpit freezer and rebuilt water maker. Holy Mackerel is a ‘one of a kind’ vessel that will be greatly appreciated by anyone who enjoys the classic lines of the 53c but wants the updated systems and equipment of a much newer boat.
