Notice anything special about this center cockpit walk-through's profile? Besides the fact that it's stylish, fully equipped, and gorgeous - it's been customized and elongated beyond the original 50' size. The stern has been redesigned by Sparkman & Stephens to add 2 additional feet, giving this Gulfstar 50 a 52' LOA. It's an invaluable addition of space.
Fully air conditioned and supported by a Northern Lights generator, she comes with only approx 700 hours on her 85 hp Perkins engine and includes a 10-foot Achilles RIB and Yamaha outboard. Navigation is easy with her Raymarine C120W in the cockpit and a Garmin 478 repeater down below. And a complete set of Mack sails was made new for her in 2014.
Down below, you'll notice the walls are a light colored, Viking Teak and along with lots of ports and hatches, you have a much brighter interior than most Gulfstars of this era, without losing the richness of wood. This being a three cabin design but not needing the third cabin, it's currently being used as a two-cabin layout with a work room. But if you need a third sleeping cabin, the bunks can easily be re-installed.
This is the boat many sailors aspire to make their boats into, but all the work has been done for you. Step on board and sail away in style!

The Biggest Pros and Cons
The 1980 Gulfstar Center Cockpit Ketch offers a distinctive sailing experience with several advantages and some considerations to keep in mind:
Pros
Robust Construction: Known for sturdy fiberglass hulls, providing durability and a solid feel on the water.
Center Cockpit Design: Offers enhanced visibility, safety, and a comfortable helm station, especially beneficial for longer voyages.
Ketch Rig: The two-mast setup allows for versatile sail configurations, making it easier to balance the sail plan and handle varying wind conditions.
Spacious Interior: Generally roomy accommodations with good headroom, making it suitable for extended cruising and liveaboard comfort.
Good Storage: Ample storage space for gear and provisions, an important feature for cruising sailors.
Seaworthiness: Designed with offshore capability in mind, often praised for stable handling in rough seas.
Cons
Moderate Performance: The ketch rig and heavier build can result in slower speeds compared to sleeker, single-mast sailboats.
Maintenance: Older models may require upkeep on rigging, sails, and mechanical systems due to their age.
Center Cockpit Trade-offs: While offering safety and visibility, the center cockpit can reduce cockpit size and sometimes impact deck flow.
Complexity of Rigging: Two masts mean more lines, sails, and hardware to manage, which can be challenging for less experienced sailors.
Age-Related Wear: As a 1980 model, potential buyers should inspect for issues like osmotic blisters, outdated electronics, or worn fittings.
