Galeon 560 Sky: BoatTEST Review
Overview
The Galleon 560 Sky is a premium yacht that blends the sleek profile of an express cruiser with the elevated operating station characteristic of a modified flying bridge. This model distinguishes itself from the 550 fly yacht by featuring a convertible flying bridge without a hardtop option. Known for its exceptional fit and finish, the 560 Sky exemplifies the craftsmanship and attention to detail that define the Galleon brand.
Exterior Design and Bridge
Access to the elevated operating station is provided via three 7-inch steps on the port side of the aft deck, leading to a 17-inch wide molded stairway. At the top, the flying bridge offers a functional and attractive gathering area with a counter and refrigerator beneath. Seating includes a contoured port side seat, glove storage, grab handles, beverage holders, and a wraparound bench that features a flipped seat back to allow passengers to share the operator's forward view. The console and windshield can be lowered, and the clamshell roof actuated to enclose the bridge when needed. The stern features a 5-foot-1-inch teak platform, with 4 feet 7 inches hydraulically lowered into the water for easy access. Automatic stairs deploy to port, and a reboarding ladder with grab handles is located to starboard. Teak decking, crafted in-house, extends throughout the exterior. The aft deck entry is 23 inches wide with two 9-inch steps to port, complemented by a freshwater shower and molded gate. An L-shaped settee wraps around an expandable solid surface table, all under the protection of an upward sloping flying bridge deck averaging 7 feet 2 inches in height. Forward on the bow, two sun pads measure 88 inches long by 31 inches wide, equipped with beverage holders and grab rails, with seat backs that lift into chaise lounge positions.
Interior Living Spaces
The interior features a seamless transition from the aft deck through doors opening to a full 5 feet 10 inches, with single-level decking and abundant natural light from large windows. Dark walnut woodwork predominates, available in matte or gloss finishes, complemented by Alcantara suede upholstered overheads measuring 6 feet 7 inches in height. The galley is located aft to port, centrally positioned between the main deck gathering areas, offering ample counter space, storage, and practical features such as fiddles on the upper counters, a convection oven, two-burner induction cooktop, double basin sink with cutting board covers, and a corner-mounted refrigerator freezer. Additional refrigerated drawers and an ice maker are positioned opposite the galley. The salon, located forward and elevated by four 5-inch steps, boasts a ceiling height of 6 feet 8 inches. Seating includes a U-shaped settee wrapping around a dark walnut table with a light walnut inlay, supported by manually actuated high-low pedestals that convert the table into a berth. Opposite seating features a two-person loveseat flanked by end tables with storage and entertainment components. A 49-inch TV rises on an electric lift, accompanied by a Bose sound bar. Large windows and an electrically operated sunroof and side windows provide abundant natural light and ventilation, enhancing the convertible ambiance. The interior showcases intricate book-matched woodwork, solid surface counters supported by stainless steel, integrated air handling vents, diamond-stitched upholstery with custom embroidery, and coordinated Alcantara suede side panels.
Private Accommodations
Below deck, the 560 Sky offers a three-stateroom, two-head layout accessed via a center-mounted companionway adorned with Alcantara suede panels and walnut trim. The full-beam master stateroom aft features hull-side windows with opening ports for light and ventilation, a 65 by 72-inch center-mounted berth with under-bed lighting, and a headroom of 6 feet 5 inches. The space includes built-in night tables with reading lights and sconces, a port-side couch facing a desk or vanity with a lighted mirror and storage, a mirrored cabinet, a leather-topped storage cabinet to starboard, a hanging locker, and a 32-inch TV. The headboard and overhead are finished with Alcantara suede and walnut trim, featuring backlit textured panels and intricate shelving. A combination washer-dryer is located in the entryway. The master en suite includes dark walnut cabinetry, solid surface counters, a vessel sink with contemporary fixtures, an enclosed shower with detailed tile work, rainfall and handheld shower wands, and an opening port for ventilation. The starboard guest cabin contains twin 80 by 22-inch berths spaced 11 inches apart with a built-in night table, hall-side window and opening port, hanging locker with auto-activated lighting, and drawer storage. Across the companionway is the day head, similar in design to the master head but slightly smaller, with full-length mirrors on the entry doors. The forward VIP stateroom features a 77 by 63-inch island berth with hall-side windows and opening ports, steps on both sides of the berth, beveled mirror headboard, extensive storage including over-window compartments and under-berth drawers, a hanging locker with drawer storage, a 24-inch TV, and a corner-mounted mirrored vanity. A large skylight with screens and shades provides natural light, and the stateroom has a private entrance to the en suite.
