Exterior Design and Cockpit
Significant enhancements were made to the stern platform and cockpit for the 2017 model year. The swim platform has nearly doubled in size, providing ample space for water sports, tender launching, and sunbathing. It features a synthetic teak-like surface that remains cool to the touch and a robust steel rail that serves as both a handhold and a fender. The platform is a separate structure seamlessly integrated into the hull. Along the transom, amenities include shore power connections, courtesy and LED stern lights, speakers, and concealed storage beneath a new sun pad for fenders and dock lines. Additional conveniences include a hot and cold shower and engine flushing hose connections. The cockpit seating is versatile, with lounge seat backs that swing fore and aft to create either chaise lounges or cozy seating around a pedestal table. A port-side wet bar is discreetly housed under a gray molding and includes a sink, refrigerator, battery switch, trash container, and hardware for mounting a flat-screen TV with power and cable connections, as well as USB ports. An optional air conditioning unit is installed beneath a port bench seat. The helm and cockpit dash continue the gray surface theme, reducing glare and enhancing the overall sophisticated appearance.
Helm Layout and Controls
The helm features a faux burl wood upper panel with a SmartKraft vessel view and fuel gauges. A centrally located 12-inch Raymarine E120 display provides navigation and system information, complemented by an optional autopilot, trim gauges, and a chain counter for the windlass. The starboard side houses the power quadrant with digital throttle and shift controls. Controls for trim tabs, the AXIOS joystick, remote spotlight, and the AXIOS control panel with skyhook functionality are conveniently positioned within fingertip reach. Power and Performance
The Formula 37 PC measures 38 feet 5 inches overall, with a 12-foot beam and a draft of 34 inches. The test vessel weighed 18,340 pounds, including fuel and two passengers. Powered by twin 430 horsepower 8.2L Magnum HO engines, the boat achieved a top speed of 46.7 miles per hour at 4,800 RPM, consuming 67.5 gallons of fuel per hour and providing a range of 147 miles. The most efficient cruise speed was 32.2 miles per hour at 3,500 RPM, with a fuel burn of 33.25 gallons per hour, enabling a range of 206 miles over six hours and 24 minutes while maintaining a 10% fuel reserve. Acceleration was brisk, with a time to plane of 4.8 seconds, reaching 20 mph in 6.6 seconds, 30 mph in 11.6 seconds, and 40 mph in 18.8 seconds. The bow rises approximately 12 degrees during acceleration due to its forward position, temporarily obscuring the horizon until the boat planes. Once on plane, a slight trim adjustment reduces the bow angle to about 6 to 7 degrees for comfortable cruising. Steering is responsive with two and a half turns lock to lock, providing precise control without abrupt handling. At idle speeds, visibility through the windshield is somewhat limited unless seated, but the generous headroom makes standing at the helm ideal during cruising.
