Overview
The Formula 430 SSC marks a significant milestone as the first outboard-powered boat produced by Formula since 1986. This model advances the dayboating concept by combining the entertaining amenities of a large dayboat cruiser with the water sports capabilities typical of a substantial sport boat. Featuring a hardtop, an impressive helm station, and unexpectedly spacious accommodations below deck, the 430 SSC also functions effectively as an express cruiser with bow seating. Its design incorporates Formula's SmartZone concept, aligning the bow, helm deck, and cockpit on the same level to create nearly 40 linear feet of deck space.
Exterior Design and Swim Platform
The swim platform of the 430 SSC is notably expansive, measuring 135 inches in width and 55 inches in depth, with a 7-inch step height. It is covered in durable plastic and equipped with cleats at each aft corner. Storage compartments beneath the platform provide access to rigging, and a large fender trunk is positioned at the front. The boat includes versatile SUP board racks that can be repositioned depending on motor tilt. A dedicated swim ladder slot is located on the port side, with a corresponding slot on the starboard side. An emergency boarding ladder with flip-out steps is integrated into the trailing edge of the swim platform on the starboard side. Utility features include a freshwater shower, battery switches, and a garden hose connection that allows flushing of all four motors simultaneously.
Cockpit and Deck Features
The cockpit area is designed for comfort and functionality, featuring a grill with a protective top and dual control knobs, as well as a spacious lounge with convertible backrests and wraparound seating extending to starboard and port sides. USB ports are conveniently located throughout the boat. A power-operated table to starboard rises at the push of a button, with a grippy plastic surface for secure placement of items. The lounge cushions can be configured to form a large sunpad measuring six feet, eight inches by four feet, eight inches. Storage is accessible beneath hinged cushions. Forward of the cockpit, a sunshade for the bow is stowed with dedicated racks for stanchions. Mechanical system access is facilitated by hatches and a power actuator that raises the entire aft seat structure, revealing the generator, batteries, and other equipment. Overhead, the hardtop includes a power sunroof, LED lighting, and integrated speakers, while the sunshade extends over the swim platform providing six feet, eight inches of headroom and protection from sun or rain.
Galley and Helm Station
The cockpit wet bar is equipped with two cup holders, ample counter space, and a slide-away sink cover. A stainless steel drawer-style refrigerator with freezer capabilities is included. The helm features three individual seats with folding bolsters and power-adjustable footrests, complemented by a slide-out Yeti cooler beneath one seat. Storage lockers are available beneath the sink and in the port gunwale, which houses a blender, fire extinguisher, and automatic fire suppression system handle. The cockpit also includes a dedicated TV socket with cable management features. Forward, a rope locker is positioned for convenient access.
Bow Area
Access to the bow is via a 20-inch wide passageway that can be closed off with an opening windshield section and a lower acrylic air dam, secured by a sturdy tie bar. The bow seating wraps around the area, spanning 75 inches across, with seating along the starboard side and across the bow. Fold-out cup holders are integrated into the armrests, and USB ports and rails are consistent with those throughout the boat. The stereo system offers remote volume control for four distinct zones. Two bow tables can be raised or lowered and filled with cushions to create a protected playpen or tanning area. A standard bow sunshade is included, with stanchions that insert into the bow rail for easy installation and plugs to fill the rail when the shade is not in use. The boat is equipped with a standard Lumar windlass and offers an optional towing eye for use as a superyacht tender.
Interior Living Spaces
Below deck, the 430 SSC's cabin features a tower to port that controls primary systems including air conditioning, stereo, lighting, and integrates Raymarine GS95 and VesselView 702 management systems, complementing the helm display. A second charging port is available in the aft cabin for monitoring systems. The refrigerator can be configured as either a freezer or refrigerator. The dinette includes a table that can be raised or lowered, with a hinged backrest that folds up to enhance legroom, demonstrating attention to detail. Side windows and the skylight above the v-berth have sliding shades with magnetic latches. The galley is equipped with a Kenyon stove, sink, and Keurig coffee maker, all concealed under sliding hideaway covers. Stemware and tumblers are stored in a dedicated showcase, and a 32-inch LCD TV is positioned for viewing from the dinette.
Private Accommodations and Head
The private head compartment offers full standing headroom and includes a pull-up shower, storage, sink with Corian countertop, and a porcelain toilet beneath a fold-up seat. The area is molded fiberglass for ease of cleaning. The aft cabin features a queen-size Sensus memory foam mattress and a 32-inch LCD HD TV positioned at the foot of the bed.
Customization and Finishing Touches
Owners can personalize the 430 SSC through Formula Flex, which allows selection of colors, upholstery styles, graphics, helm treatments, and hull colors. Formula distinguishes itself by painting its boats, resulting in a high-gloss finish that has become a signature of the brand. LED lighting in the cockpit offers various color options to set the desired ambiance for evening use.
Conclusion
The Formula 430 SSC successfully blends the attributes of a large dayboat cruiser, sport boat, and express cruiser into one versatile package. Its expansive deck spaces, extensive amenities, and thoughtfully designed interior accommodations make it suitable for a wide range of boating activities and preferences. The combination of innovative design features, customization options, and high-quality finishes positions the 430 SSC as a compelling choice in its class.
