Everglades 435: BoatTEST Review

Reviewed by Jeff Hammond

Overview

The Everglades 435 center console represents Everglades Boat's largest build to date, designed specifically for serious offshore use. This vessel caters to owners seeking a seaworthy blue water boat without compromises, suitable for fishing, entertaining, and even extended weekend living. Its robust construction and thoughtful design make it ideal for those trading down from larger battle wagons or anyone desiring a premium open boat experience.

Exterior Design and Cockpit Features

The 435's exterior is engineered for durability and functionality. Powered by four Yamaha 425-horsepower engines totaling 1,700 horsepower and weighing 3,808 pounds, the boat features a composite fiberglass transom reinforced with a large powder-coated aluminum bracket secured by 32 bolts. The outboard well is cleanly designed with all hoses and wires contained within a single tube and no external steering arms, allowing the engines to tilt up to 73 degrees. Side-to-side access is stable and easy, facilitating engine inspection without the need for catwalks. The stern includes six rocket launcher-style rod holders and two 60-gallon pressurized live wells with inspection windows, flanking a 45-gallon self-draining fish or bait box with an optional freezer plate. Dock lines pass through hawse holes to hull-mounted cleats, with large drains positioned at the hull-to-sole junction for easy cleaning. A forward-facing fold-out bench seat on the transom is strong enough to support an adult standing, and a utility door on the port side provides convenient boarding or access for divers and swimmers. Optional varnished teak rocket launchers and fighting chairs enhance fishing capabilities, while a fold-out seat behind the cockpit offers a comfortable vantage point for trolling.

Fishing and Workstation Amenities

The cockpit is equipped with a professional-grade workstation featuring four spool holders, a tool rack, a bait prep tray draining into a sink, and a cutting board. Storage compartments accommodate gloves, tools, and up to five Plano tackle boxes on ball-bearing drawers. A fold-down compartment holds up to 42 pre-rigged leaders, complemented by three under-gunnel nine-foot rod racks on each side, totaling 40 rod storage racks throughout the boat. Fresh and raw water wash-down bibs are recessed in the rod rack wells, and lockable storage cabinets in the forward compartments secure lines, life vests, and additional gear. The fiberglass hardtop, supported by powder-coated aluminum, includes handholds, spreader lights, speakers, rod holders, and a Fusion stereo control. Standard carbon fiber outriggers extend from the hardtop, with an optional shore shade awning covering the aft cockpit. Teak accents are thoughtfully integrated across the vessel, including varnished teak at the helm and cockpit areas.

Helm and Navigation

The helm features a center-mounted carbon fiber wheel with a rubber backing for grip, a compass, and space for three 17-inch displays, including a Yamaha command link display centrally located. Controls include a helm master joystick, trim tab switches, and accessory switches arranged port and starboard. The helm deck has a soft pad to reduce leg fatigue and a fold-down platform for shorter operators. Seating consists of three Pompanette Platinum Series captain's chairs with flip-down bolsters and armrests, complemented by handholds for passenger safety. A patent-pending retractable windscreen with intelligent wipers and washer system enhances visibility in adverse conditions. The optional upper helm, accessible via ladder through the hardtop hatch, provides extended visibility with a horizon view of 4.2 miles and doubles the sea area observed compared to the lower helm. This station includes comprehensive controls and two leaning posts, with a fiberglass and aluminum top that folds for storage.

Bow and Deck Features

The bow area is designed for comfort and utility, featuring an electric high-low table that seats five and converts into a large sun pad with removable backrests for forward-facing chaise seating. Under-seat storage is plentiful, and a 225-gallon insulated fish box with pump-out is integrated into the deck. Additional hose pipes and rod holders are positioned on the foredeck. The ground tackle system includes a stainless steel plow anchor with swivel, 25 feet of chain, and 375 feet of rode, managed by a Lumar Pro-Fish electric windlass with handheld remote. The anchor compartment also houses fresh and raw water wash-down bibs and provides access to the road locker. A large cleat for the anchor rode is included, enhancing operational convenience.

Interior Living Spaces

Accessed via a port-side hatch, the cabin offers 6 feet 6 inches of headroom and includes a well-appointed galley with a glass bowl sink, microwave, stainless steel refrigerator, faux granite countertops, and a 20-inch LED TV with DVD player. The electrical panel is conveniently located nearby. Seating converts electrically into a bed measuring 80 by 52 inches. Natural light enters through port lights and skylights, and the cabin is climate-controlled with 12,000 BTUs of air conditioning. A partition etched with a billfish motif separates the wet head area, which includes a shower with embedded LED lighting and an electric toilet. Woodgrain decking throughout reduces maintenance and adds warmth to the interior.

Power and Performance

The Everglades 435 center console has a 12-foot beam and an empty weight of 16,800 pounds. Our test boat, carrying fuel, three people, and gear, weighed approximately 20,898 pounds. Powered by four Yamaha 5.6-liter V8 XTO engines producing 425 horsepower each, turning 21-inch by 16-3/8-inch three-bladed props, the boat achieved a top speed of 52.1 knots at 6,000 RPM. Optimal cruising occurred at 3,000 RPM, delivering 21.4 knots while consuming 34.2 gallons per hour, yielding a range of 344.6 nautical miles with a 10% fuel reserve from the 610-gallon baffled aluminum tank. Acceleration was brisk, with zero to 20 mph in 5.3 seconds and 30 mph in 8.4 seconds, accompanied by minimal bow rise and a steady five-degree running angle. The hull features an average dead rise of 41 degrees from bow to transom, with a 25-degree dead rise at the transom, emphasizing ride smoothness over top-end speed. Testing in protected waters revealed a solid, stable ride with excellent maneuverability, aided by the SeaKeeper 6 gyro-stabilizer and Yamaha Helm Master joystick system, which facilitated precise docking and control of the four independent engines.

Conclusion

The Everglades 435 center console is a premium offshore vessel that excels in build quality, performance, and versatility. Certified by NMMA and ABYC, with optional CE compliance, it offers a compelling alternative to larger sport fishing convertibles by combining speed, efficiency, and luxury at a competitive price point. Its thoughtful design accommodates serious anglers and cruisers alike, providing comfort, ample storage, and advanced technology. Overall, the 435CC stands out as a smooth-riding, well-equipped, and highly capable blue water center console.
