Vessel Overview
"Ocean Song" is a 53' DeFever. Originally, this series was first introduced as a 51' model in 1986 and then increased to 53'. The 3-stateroom, 3-ensuite head layout below and aft deck, salon, galley and wheelhouse above, along with an extremely large flybridge is rarely duplicated today by any manufacturer.


In the summer of 2004, "Ocean Song" was completely awl-gripped at a cost of over $50,000, which included the removal of all stainless steel and other exterior hardware. This extremely complete job included awl-gripping the interior of any of the exterior cabinets on the flybridge, the half tower, the toerails and gives the yacht a 'like new' appearance. In addition, her owners maintain the exterior varnished caprails and interior teak cabinetry and paneling to a very high level. This yacht was originally ordered with teak & holly floors throughout, although many areas are currently carpeted.


From the aft deck, there is access either to a swim platform via a stainless steel ladder or through double doors into the main salon. This yacht has complete walkaround decks and thus lends itself to use by a couple with no captain. The forward area on the bow is large and has built-in seating, additional shore and freshwater service and the original windlass was replaced with a 3500 Maxwell Dual Capstan with single anchor roller and excellent ground tackle. Her owners have always enjoyed fishing and even though the design of this yacht is normally not recognized for that purpose, their photos would certainly lead you to believe otherwise, and as such there are rod holders at various locations on the walkaround decks.


The main salon features an L-shaped settee, a custom chair with ottoman and a large, custom teak table to port. To starboard, this area boasts a built-in bar, which includes an icemaker, custom decanters for liquor storage, entertainment center with color TV and additional storage cabinets. There are two matching lamps to both port and starboard. Forward in the salon, a private staircase leads to both the master stateroom and the engine room. Ahead of this staircase are additional cabinets for storage and a custom bookshelf, built by the current owner. Coming forward there is a table and chairs for dining. Ahead of this dining area is additional storage, which is located at the base of the staircase, which leads to the flybridge. The headliner and teak strapping appear in 'as new' condition and the window blinds and curtains add to a warm atmosphere, as does the recent new carpeting. All overhead lighting has been replaced with new fixtures.
Galley
The galley adjoins the salon and was recently customized by the owner with a bar counter which also creates privacy to the galley countertop when looking forward from the salon. A recent fully equipped galley includes a new dishwasher, large side-by-side refrigerator/freezer with ice and water dispensers in the door, electric stove and oven, built-in microwave oven and built-in coffeemaker. Also, the design of the galley lends itself to extensive storage. The galley counter is designed to keep food preparation from the view of guests in the salon.

Wheelhouse
The wheelhouse forward has a long built-in settee, which is raised to allow excellent visibility. Below this built-in seat, the current owner designed a storage area for additional lines and the spare propellers. On the portside of the steering station, there are 3 large drawers, which can be used for chart storage, and below that are both the AC/DC panels for the yacht service and the Dell computer tower. To starboard of the wheel is additional cabinet and drawer storage. This lower station has its own separate autopilot with remote and pump system, large screen color depth finder, flatscreen for navigational charts, Canon printer, SSB radio, VHF radio, additional GPS, updated stabilizer control, Glendinning synchronizers, large compass and a number of other controls.
Master Stateroom
Descending the staircase from the salon to the master stateroom, there is a beautifully displayed shell collection on the stair landing. Located aft, the master stateroom features a queen berth with a high quality mattress and mirrored headboard. Custom nightstands, with recent new swing-arm reading lights, are on either side of the head of the berth. A color TV is located above the starboard-hanging locker. Additional storage was used to accommodate the freshwater system and Glendinning electric cablemaster. The normal water tank, which is housed in the engine room, was replaced with a custom fiberglass tank underneath the master berth. Normally hanging lockers were restricted to the starboard side of this stateroom, but to accommodate additional storage, the settee to port, which is seldom used on these yachts, was replaced with a large matching teak cabinet with excellent storage and vanity forward. Custom window treatments and large opening ports provide a lot of natural light. The air conditioning system was upgraded with digital controls. The ensuite head offers additional storage lockers built-in and a very large shower stall with custom seat. Having been boating for over 40 years, the owners modified the shower sump and air conditioning system drainage to allow this water to flow into enclosed tanks and then pumped overboard, which eliminates odors found in standard installations.
VIP Stateroom
There are 2 guest staterooms accessed from the staircase on the starboard side of the wheelhouse. The VIP stateroom is just ahead of amidships underneath the wheelhouse and has a walkaround queen berth athwartships. There is a mirrored headboard, a nightstand, reading lights, full-height hanging locker and custom window treatments. There is a large custom vanity with angled mirrors and lighting above. Additional storage is available in a four-drawer storage cabinet, as you enter the stateroom. The ensuite head has storage cabinets, opening port with window treatments, Corian countertop and a large shower with seating and upgraded shower sump system.
Guest Stateroom
Moving forward of the VIP, this guest stateroom serves a multi-purpose offering V-berths above a significant amount of drawer storage forward. This stateroom has a large opening hatch overhead for natural light or to provide ventilation. As you enter the stateroom, there is a vanity to starboard with overhead cabinet storage. Just forward of this vanity is a computer desk with a diagonally positioned shelf above. To port, there is a hanging locker and a large built-in file-type teak cabinet with storage shelf above. This stateroom also boasts its own ensuite head with opening port, storage areas, large shower and the upgraded shower sump system.
Flybridge
An inside staircase from the wheelhouse allows easy access to the large flybridge. There is bench seating aft of the helm to starboard and L-shaped seating and table to port. A custom awl-gripped half tower, with soft-top and full enclosure, has a built-in electronics box above with a Lexan opening door. There is a single helmseat at the flybridge console and access to storage below the console. An additional separate autopilot is located here, as well as a Northstar GPS chartplotter, depth finder, VHF radio, searchlight controls, EPIRB, compass and other controls. The flybridge is large enough to hold the 11' Avon inflatable with 40-hp Yamaha 4-stroke, additional freezer, 6-man emergency liferaft and an extra long fishing tackle/storage fiberglass deckbox.
Engine Room
The full stand-up engine room on the 53' is entered through a full height door forward of the staircase which leads down from the main salon. The engines are positioned low to increase stability and the owner added an additional 300 gallons of fuel in two separate tanks to increase the normal capacity from 800 to 1,100 gallons. The four-stroke 375hp CAT diesels offer excellent economy at hull speed or provide speeds up to 16 knots in emergency conditions. There is a 15kW Onan generator and the original 8kW generator was replaced with a new 10kW generator. The access to the stabilizer fins is very good and the Naiad system was recently upgraded. The full-size Asko washer/dryer units are also a recent upgrade. A new Fireboy automatic fire fighting system was installed, there is a watermaker, fuel polishing system, inverter, oil change system, and all of these systems are easily accessed.
