Tumbleweed is a custom built center cockpit sloop rigged monohull that was designed for being able to withstand potential iceberg collisions in the north Atlantic. Aluminum interlocking planks running lengthwise are bolted together, and then sealed with epoxy. The result is a bluewater sailing vessel that is more reminiscent of a battleship than a typical fiberglass built boat! The hull design has to be seen to be truly appreciated.
The current owner took possession in 2021 in the Great Lakes and motored down the Mississippi River into the Gulf of Mexico before the mast was rigged at the Pensacola Shipyard. The boat was sandblasted top and bottom, resealed with 7 layers of paint to protect the hull. Tumbleweed then sailed around thru the Florida Keys to Cape Canaveral, Carolinas and then to St. Augustine, Florida. Tumbleweed is currently in a slip at Rivers Edge Marina and is available for showing by appointment only.
