2002 Custom Built Stuart Catamarans 64'
Jonny Wasabi is a 64' one-off cruising trimaran, but she's not just any one-off. Designed by Cortland Steck of Hunter Yachts and Manta Catamarans and thoughtfully built here in Stuart, Florida by GRP Guru Andre Cocquyt, innovator, and authority on composite construction.
JW is built with a combination of fiberglass, Kevlar, and carbon fiber with Divinycell, Nida Core, and Nomex core materials making the boat very strong, and very stiff, yet light and efficient through the water.
JW has been owned by the same family for 18 years. She has been comfortably cruised throughout the Bahamas nearly every year since taking delivery from the builder. The owner is an exceptionally talented and meticulous boat owner with several builds and restorations of his own. Over the course of his ownership, every system has been painstakingly considered for convenience of use, maintenance, simplicity, and long life.
You will be pleasantly surprised to find that JW looks as good in person as she does in these photographs, and that nearly every usable space is clean, and feels more like a new boat than one of 18 years. Yes, JW is unique, but so is the level of care, construction, comfort, simplicity, and ease of use. She is ideal for a couple or small family, and she can go today.

Pros
Spacious Design: The Custom 64 Stuart Catamaran offers a wide beam and multiple living areas, providing ample space for relaxation and social gatherings, making it ideal for families or groups of friends.
Stability: As a catamaran, it benefits from superior stability in the water compared to monohulls. This makes it a great choice for both novice and experienced sailors, ensuring a comfortable ride.
Performance: The design of the 64 Stuart Catamaran allows for impressive sailing performance. Its hull shape is optimized for speed and efficiency, making it suitable for cruising and blue-water adventures.
Customization: Being a custom-built vessel, owners can often find unique features tailored to their preferences, from interior layouts to storage solutions, enhancing the overall sailing experience.
Versatility: With both private and communal spaces, the catamaran is suitable for liveaboard purposes or for leisurely trips, accommodating various lifestyles and sailing needs.
Reduced Draft: The shallow draft allows access to more coastal areas and shallow waters, giving you the freedom to explore various destinations that larger vessels might find inaccessible.
Cons
Costs: The initial purchase price, maintenance, and operating costs can be higher compared to traditional monohulls due to the specialized design and materials used in catamaran construction.
Maneuverability in Tight Spaces: While catamarans are generally stable, they can be less maneuverable in tight marinas compared to monohulls, which may present challenges during docking or mooring.
Weight: Depending on the customization and materials used, the overall weight could be greater than that of other vessels, impacting performance in certain conditions, particularly in light winds.
Limited Windward Performance: Catamarans can struggle when sailing directly into the wind, potentially requiring more tacking and thus slower progress in certain conditions.
Bulkhead Access: The configuration of catamarans can sometimes make access to certain areas, like engine compartments or plumbing, more complex compared to traditional boat designs.
Resale Value: Depending on the demand and market for catamarans in a given area, resale values may fluctuate more dramatically than for conventional boats, potentially affecting long-term investment returns.
