"JACOB'S LADDER" is an exemplary example of the CONTEST 36S model that was first introduced in 1984. Designed by Dick Zaal & built by the renowned CONYPLEX B.V. of Medemblik, Holland, that Company's long-term tradition & reputation of constructing top-notch sailing yachts since 1960 was certainly further enhanced. The "36S" was the first of the more modern designs as offered by CONTEST YACHTS for the benefit of the performance-oriented "cruiser / racer" sailor who clearly wanted the best of both worlds! She was constructed with a balsa-core hull to lighten the yacht as well as enhance the overall structural integrity for the "offshore" and "racing" environments .. or both! .. and to take advantage of her available powerful 7/8th Rig sailpan to capitalize on the performance capabilities by design and build for this model.

The "JACOB'S LADDER" is hull #217 and was delivered in the Summer of 1985 as a "1986" model. Typical of the CONTEST 36S' in general, she has had only a few Owners since "day one". She was purchased by her present Owner in the Summer of 2003. The "JACOB'S LADDER" has been exceptionally well-maintained to the present day. The favorable comments in the Listing regarding "condition" and "presentation" and "maintenance" are worthy of note and are accurate. The innate qualities of build and "features and benefits" of the CONTEST 36S are the principle characteristics that have served to attract clients over the years who desire an offshore-capable yacht with a modern, roomy interior layout and good sailing performance too. This CONTEST 36S is exceptionally well-equipped & in very good condition as well. Substantial improvements that have been made over the years include a new YANMAR 39 HP FWC diesel engine (2010), newer KAPPA Sails, new standing & running rigging (2011-2012) & HARKEN roller-furling (2011), replaced canvas (dodger & Bimini, for example), a new LOFRANS electric / manual anchor windlass (2010), a new MAX-PROP (3) blade feathering propeller "and more". The "JACOB's LADDER" had been outfitted for a planned participation for the Marion-Bermuda Race in 2012 and the inventory & preparation reflects that "offshore" intention. .
