The PowerBoat Guide had this to say:
The 381 Catalina Double Cabin is an enlarged version of the very popular 350 Catalina introduced by Chris Craft a few years earlier. Built on a solid fiberglass, low deadrise hull with a relatively wide beam, the 381 has an enormous interior for her size as well as a small but family friendly helm/aft deck platform. Her galley up accommodation's include two roomy staterooms, stall shower enclosures in both heads, adequate storage and full walk-around decks--not bad for a 38-foot cruiser. (Note that a walk-around queen bed in the master stateroom became standard in 1983.) A lower helm was never offered because the front windshield area is fiber-glassed over to provide foredeck seating. Topside, the helm is level with the aft deck, so the helmsman isn't separated from the passengers. Additional features include a roomy engine room accessed via hatches in the salon sole, a bow pulpit and a swim platform.
