Big sister to the 380 Santego and featuring an almost identical floorplan, the Carver 38 Santego was one of the early sedan bridge designs that have since become so popular with buyers. Like most Carvers of her era, she was constructed on a moderate-deadrise hull with balsa coring in the hull sides, and solid fiberglass below the waterline. The Santego is a great boat for entertaining and she has one of the most user-friendly bridge layouts imaginable. Guest seating surrounds the elevated helm console, and a cutout forward reveals a set of molded steps leading to the foredeck - a real necessity since here are no sidedecks. Below, the Santego's single-level interior uses the full width of the hull to create a cavernous main salon. (A two-stateroom floorplan was introduced in 1990). The cockpit is roomy. For power, the Santego uses 454-cid gas engines with V-drives. She cruises comfortably between 17 and 18 knots and she reaches a top speed of around 24 knots. (2013 Powerboat Guide)

She's a rare find...

As soon as you step aboard this roomy boat, you'll notice the abundance of space everywhere you go. The cockpit is huge with a built in forward-facing bench seat...with plenty of room for extra deck chairs. Passage from the cockpit to the molded platform is easy with walk-throughs on both port and starboard side and molded steps leading down.

Entrance below decks is a breeze with the full-size sliding glass door. Two steps down and you'll feel as though you've entered a small hotel suite. The owners have had her redecorated in 2010 with new upholstery for the settees in burgundy leather, new carpet and window treatments and accents, all tastefully done. Her salon is quite huge since she uses every bit of the 14-foot beam, creating enough room for a small crowd. Entertaining is easy with her television, surround sound system, built in bar and large, fully equipped galley. The single-level floorplan makes it easy to get around.

To starboard is the huge head with an entrance from the main salon as well as a private entrance from the forward stateroom. The separate shower stall provides plenty of room to move around, and the head system has been converted to a lectra-san system for easy waste management.

The single stateroom is all the way forward boasting a centerline queen berth, with custom made ultra-comfortable mattress, There's plenty of storage here with drawers everywhere and a cedar-lined hanging locker. The forward cabin is also equipped with a separate electric heater (resistance heat) to keep you warm during the colder nights. The convertible lounge to starboard (with fold out privacy curtain) and fold-out lounge to port increases her sleeping capacity to 5 or 6 people.

Head back out to the cockpit and up to the bridge via either ladder steps to port or starboard. Up here, you'll be amazed (again) and the abundance of room with seating for a dozen people. Since the helm is slightly elevated, the Captain will have plenty of visibility with a full crowd. Passage to the foredeck is made straight through the cut-away at the head of the bridge...making single handling a breeze.

She was repowered in the early part of the decade with Marine 454's and currently only have about 430 hours. The engines and generator are easily accessed through the cockpit soul.

The "real" Carver 38 Santego is a rare find in the previously enjoyed market. Her solid rigid design makes her a stable smooth riding boat that is easily handled in various conditions, as well as idling in and out of the marina.
