The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 1990 Cabo Rico 38 Cutter is a classic bluewater cruiser known for its sturdy construction and timeless design. Here are some pros and cons to consider:

Pros

Solid Build Quality: Cabo Rico yachts are renowned for their robust fiberglass construction and high-quality craftsmanship, ensuring durability and longevity.

Bluewater Capable: Designed for offshore passagemaking, the 38 Cutter handles well in a variety of sea conditions, providing confidence for long voyages.

Traditional Aesthetic: The cutter rig and classic lines offer both functional sailing advantages and an attractive, timeless appearance.

Comfortable Interior: Thoughtfully laid out with teak joinery, the interior provides a warm, inviting atmosphere and practical living space for extended cruising.

Good Storage: Ample storage options for gear and provisions make it well-suited for extended trips.

Easy to Handle: The cutter rig allows for versatile sail combinations, making it manageable for short-handed crews.

Cons

Older Design: As a 1990 model, some features and systems may be outdated compared to more modern yachts, potentially requiring upgrades.

Heavier Displacement: The solid construction results in a heavier boat, which may affect light-wind performance and speed.

Maintenance Intensive: The traditional teak interior and older systems might require regular upkeep to maintain condition.

Limited Interior Volume: While comfortable, the interior space is more compact than contemporary designs in the same length range.

Sail Handling Complexity: The cutter rig, while versatile, involves more lines and sails to manage than simpler rigs, which could be a learning curve for some sailors.
