Classic Bristol 35 Sloop! Yanmar Diesel! 400W Solar! Restoration Opportunity!
Condition detail
This 1973 Bristol 35 is a classic cruising sailboat showing significant cosmetic weathering and deferred maintenance. She is currently stored on the hard in Green Cove Springs, Florida, and has not been sailed or had her Yanmar diesel operated for approximately two years, according to the seller. Exterior brightwork, decks, cockpit areas, and other exposed surfaces require cleaning, refinishing, and general restoration. Prospective buyers should anticipate additional maintenance and recommissioning expenses before returning the vessel to service. A February 23, 2023 marine survey rated the vessel in FAIR condition at that time. The survey identified localized deck core deterioration and flexing around the lazarette hatch, elevated moisture readings across portions of the deck, and signs of water intrusion around the chainplates. Additional findings included downward deflection at the mast compression post, forward bulkhead tabbing delamination, aged engine mounts, and a worn cutless bearing. The seller reports reinforcing the bottom of the mast compression post and replacing the cutless bearing. He confirms that the chainplates and engine mounts were not addressed. Repairs to the deck core and bulkhead tabbing have not been verified. The seller also reports repairing an engine leak and fiberglass in the anchor box, replacing the propane tanks and stove supply lines, and installing solar panels and four batteries approximately two years ago. During the 2023 survey, the Yanmar diesel started and operated satisfactorily during a sea trial, reaching 3,400 RPM and maintaining operating temperature. However, the engine has not been operated recently, and its present mechanical condition has not been independently verified. The 2023 survey reported no osmotic hull blisters or delamination on the underwater hull surfaces inspected at that time. Those historical findings do not establish the vessel's current condition. This vessel should be considered a restoration and recommissioning opportunity rather than a turnkey cruising sailboat. Buyers are encouraged to review the available survey and arrange appropriate independent structural, rigging, and mechanical inspections before returning her to service.
