This 1984/2002/2022 54' Bertram Sportfish "PARADOX" is a heavily updated example of one of Bertram's most respected offshore platforms. With speeds approaching 40 knots and the C30 repower with only 300 hrs SMOH this represents an incredible value and makes her the most desirable 54 vintage Bertram available!!
More than $1,000,000 was invested during a major two-year refit beginning in 2002, including repowering with twin Caterpillar C30s at 1,550 HP each. As part of the repower, the vessel also received new transmissions, shafts, propellers, struts, and running gear, along with conversion from 32V to 24V electrical service, twin 21kW Phasor generators, new air conditioning systems, a redesigned engine room, new cockpit deck, PipeWelders hardtop, watermaker, updated galley cabinetry, and extensive fishing equipment. With the C30 power package, she is capable of speeds of 38+ knots.
In 2022, both CAT C30s received complete overhauls at approximately 5,400 hours and now have just over 5,700 original hours. Now only about 300 hours SMOH with service records. Additional updates included new Furuno electronics with engine data on Furuno electronic displays and CAT gauges, with 25kW radar and 4kW fishfinder, new interior finishes and appliances, updated countertops and plumbing fixtures, a complete overhaul of the freshwater toilet and waste system, and extensive generator servicing.
Further improvements continued in 2024 with new thru-hulls, valves and sea strainers, new compressors for the cockpit bait freezer and drink cooler, and fresh Awlgrip throughout the cockpit, gunwales, aft bulkhead, tackle station and cockpit refrigeration areas. In 2026, a new Dometic air-conditioning unit was installed in the master stateroom.
With a desirable three-stateroom, three-head layout, 17' beam, large fishing cockpit, Rupp outriggers, teaser reels, Eskimo ice machine, 2,000-lb UMT bow davit and extensive modernization throughout, this 54' Bertram offers the proven offshore capability of a classic Bertram with major mechanical, electrical, interior and fishing upgrades already completed.
