The boat accommodates up to 10 people on a single-level deck with no steps or trip hazards, emphasizing ease of movement and social interaction.
Exterior Design and Cockpit Layout
The cockpit of the Flyer 23 Space Deck demonstrates meticulous attention to detail and functionality. It features a 70-inch wide transom bench seat capable of seating four, with a seat back that can recline or lay flat to form a 35-inch wide sun pad or a cushioned staging area for water sports. Additional seating includes two flip-out bench seats from the bulwarks and helm seats that lower and swivel to join the cockpit area. Storage is ample, with three deck hatches providing access to batteries, water and fuel tanks, black water tank, battery charger, and filters. The cockpit table has dedicated storage beneath the deck, and in-deck compartments offer further storage and house the steering pump. The side deck space measures 11 inches, and the bow area is notably roomy, comfortably seating up to six people with molded seats, padded bolsters, and quilted cushions. The bow also features an elevated ground tackle area with an optional windlass and a flip-out anchor roller for ease of use. Safety and convenience are enhanced by split bow rails, six-inch cleats mounted outboard, and wide walkthroughs leading to swim platforms with a reboarding ladder and fresh water shower.
Helm and Operational Features
The helm console is wide and well-organized, featuring a contrasting Lexan upper panel fitted with an optional 9-inch Garmin multifunction display integrated with the Fusion stereo and Mercury system for comprehensive gauge readouts. Electrical switches are located below, with a bow thruster joystick positioned to the left. The wrapped steering wheel is fixed, accompanied by a Mercury Smart Craft tack and fuel gauge, while the control binnacle offers selectable functions. Its best economic cruise speed was 25.5 miles per hour at 3,500 RPM, consuming 8.5 gallons per hour, which translates to approximately three miles per gallon and a range of 250 miles while maintaining a 10% fuel reserve from its 92-gallon capacity. The air step hull design enhances acceleration and handling, with a time to plane of 3.8 seconds, acceleration to 20 miles per hour in 4.7 seconds, and to 30 miles per hour in 5.9 seconds. The hull provides excellent wave penetration with no pounding or hull slap, maintaining a dry ride even in mild chop. Turning is responsive and stable, with no chine walk or tendency to fall off turns.
