Ted Gozzard designed the Bayfield line - a salty full-keeled boat that started with the B23 in 1970, which parlayed into the B25, which became a cult boat. The B30 was the beginning of the B32 which was introduced in 1973. There were more than 300 produced. The Ontario builder continued to put out more models like the Bayfield 29 and The Bayfield 40 ketch. Distinguished by the clipper bow and a carved wooden trailing boards, the Bayfields were considered serious off shore and Great Lakes vessels. The Bayfield 32 has an encapsulated lead, full keel, sweeping sheer line and turned spindles on the mahogany taffrail. A manifestation of a cruising boat. Most were built as cutters, but some were offered as tall masted sloops. They are beamy, have broad bilges, shoal draft and attached rudders. Most used Bayfields are in good shape which is a testament to the built quality of the boats, although thought of as more economical than some of Gozzards earlier designs. The hulls are solid fiberglass and are attached to the deck on 6" centers with stainless fasteners through the aluminum toerail which is mounted on the raised bulwarks which provide a great element of safety on deck. A thick layered pan stiffens the hull inside and encapsulate the bulkheads, and also add visual appeal. A molded headliner adds a layer of sound and weather insulation. The interior is well put together and quite large and comfortable. It's finished in teak. The galley is to starboard with a decent amount of counter space and bins and lockers. Opposite there is a pull down navigation station and quarter berth. The main salon has facing port and starboard settees. Their seat backs fold up for wider sleeping surfaces. A bi-fold table of teak centers in the cabin. The head is forward on the starboard side with a locker opposite and the area can be secured from both the forward cabin and main salon. The V-berth has storage underneath and a couple of drawers. On the water the boat has a nice motion in a seaway. A Bayfield 32 was sailed single-handed across the Atlantic and plenty of other 32's have completed ocean passages and is particularly good for the Bahamas or the Caribbean. Bayfield 32's are handsome, quality cruisers and an ideal family boat with drama free sailing. Starrlight is in particularly wonderful condition (well above average) and must be seen to be appreciated. This is the 4th owner. The boat was sailed on Lake Superior before the 3rd owner bought it and now it is in the water on the St. Croix River MN/WI. Only fresh water. The boat is very nice and it is common for other boaters to yell out how beautiful the boat looks.
