Absolute is an Italian shipbuilder. The design and engineering of their boats is thoroughly modern. The quality is

high.

The Navetta is a "fast trawler" style yacht. It has a high bow to take big seas, and the ability to cruise efficiently at low

speeds, but with a planing hull, so it will run at 30 knots if you're in a hurry.

Inside and out, there is voluminous space. Outside, the foredeck has comfortable seating, and there are covered

sidedecks back to the cockpit. Up on the flybridge there is a BBQ and a table for eight people to dine, while still

leaving enough space aft to mount a dinghy. (Not that you'll need to as the hydraulic swim platform takes care of

that.)

Inside, on deck level, there is a light and spacious salon, an up-galley, and an inside helm. Down below, there is a

full-beam master stateroom, and a VIP and guest cabin, all of which have their own private heads.

This particular boat is in the hands of its second owner, and is in excellent condition, and fully loaded. Powered by

twin Volvo D8-700 engines with IPS drives that are serviced annually, it also has the following features:

  • Seakeeper gyroscopic stabilizer
  • Yachtcontroller remote control system for easy docking
  • Bow thruster
  • Generator
  • Air conditioning
  • 2020 Brig RIB w/ Yamaha 25hp outboard
  • Hydraulic swim platform
  • Complete suite of electronics

Absolute Navetta: BoatTEST Review

Reviewed by Jeff Hammond

Boat Test Review on BoatTest.com

Overview

The Absolute Nevada 68 is a new model designed with distance cruising capability in mind. Its exterior is distinguished by vertical helm windows and a plumb bow, while the interior maximizes volume to create open and spacious living areas. This review focuses on the operational features, helm layouts, and performance characteristics observed during a sea trial conducted by Captain Steve for BowTest.com.

Helm and Operational Features

The Nevada 68 offers two primary helm stations: the flying bridge and the main deck helm. The flying bridge helm is center-mounted, providing wide visibility and featuring twin 22-inch displays flanking a compass, with space for additional smaller displays and enclosed storage compartments. Controls include a tilt-mounted steering wheel, Volvo Penta engine displays, electrical push buttons, wiper controls, VHF radio, windlass control, digital engine controls, IPS joystick, bow thruster control, and a Fusion stereo. The helm is protected by an adjustable windscreen and a surrounding smoked glass windscreen integrated into a stainless frame, complemented by an angled footrest and a single pedestal bucket seat with flip bolster. An aft deck control station offers full view of the starboard side and stern for docking and maneuvering.

Main Deck Helm and Visibility

The main deck helm is centrally located on an elevated platform ahead of the salon and features three upper pods each housing 22-inch displays, plus a fourth 24-inch display. The layout includes a compass mounted above the console, VHF radio, wiper controls, Volvo Penta EVC display, windlass control, digital engine controls, IPS joystick, and bow thruster control. Seating is plush with diamond-stitched soft-touch upholstery, flip armrests, bolsters, and electric fore-and-aft adjustment. The captain’s seat includes integrated controls for the main displays. Visibility is excellent through an 8-foot by 2-foot 2-inch wraparound windshield with a deep brow and electrically opening panels, supported by defogging vents and three wipers with washers. A side door provides quick access to the side deck, and the main electrical panel is conveniently located just down the companionway to the lower deck.

Exterior Deck and Crew Areas

The aft deck features covered line handling areas with large cleats, stainless-rimmed line storage openings, and warping windlasses with foot controls. Access to twin 50-amp shore cords on electric reels is located near the platform steps. Crew space is accessed via a large transom door, with a refrigerator-freezer and washer-dryer combination positioned on either side of the stairs, customizable according to owner preference. The wet head is forward of the stairs and separated by a plastic multi-fold curtain. The engine room door is just ahead, providing access to a spacious engine room with 5 feet 10 inches of headroom and ample walk-around space between twin IPS 1200 pod drive engines.

Engine Room and Mechanical Layout

The engine room is well-organized, featuring twin Volvo Penta IPS 1200 pod drives with 46 inches of clearance between them. C-strainers are positioned alongside the engines, and the pods are accessible from the rear. Hydraulic components for the platform and windlass are mounted over the 29kW generator on the port side bench, with battery chargers and the first of two fuel tanks nearby. A sight tube indicates fuel level, though its placement could be improved. The SeaKeeper 16 gyro-stabilizer is mounted on the centerline between the two fuel tanks, flanked by fuel filters. The starboard side houses the air handling system over the 21.5kW generator.

Exterior Walkways and Bow Features

Side decks measure 23 inches in width with bulwarks rising 14 inches and rails topping out at 39 inches. Lifelines have been added to newer models for enhanced safety. The bulwarks dip down near the salon windows to improve sight lines. Two 14-inch cleats are positioned just aft and ahead of midships, with four 9-inch steps leading forward. Overhead protection is provided by a 6-foot 9-inch overhang. Tow rails and 26-inch high railings surround the ground tackle area, which features chafing gear along the stem. A recessed life ring is integrated into the bulwarks for safety.

Performance and Handling

Powered by twin 900 horsepower Volvo Penta IPS 1200 engines, the Nevada 68 has a length overall of 67 feet 4 inches, a beam of 18 feet 6 inches, and a draft of 5 feet 9 inches. The test vessel, with an estimated weight of approximately 122,000 pounds including fuel, water, and crew, achieved a top speed of 22.2 knots at 2,300 RPM in 2 to 3-foot seas. Absolute’s own testing in ideal conditions recorded a top speed of 24.8 knots. Fuel consumption remained steady at 0.3 nautical miles per gallon down to 1,750 RPM and 14.2 knots, allowing flexible speed settings based on conditions. At a no-wake speed of 8 knots, the boat’s range is estimated at 637 nautical miles, with a minimum planing speed of 13.5 knots and a range of 281 nautical miles at that speed.

Ride Comfort and Maneuverability

The Nevada 68 offers a comfortable and stable ride, characterized by a sedate 4-degree roll into turns and a minimal 5-degree bow rise during acceleration and planing. Its hull design includes a spray rail that directs spray low and wide, contributing to a dry ride. The SeaKeeper 16 gyro-stabilizer effectively reduces roll, limiting it to 2 degrees either side of center compared to 7 to 8 degrees with the gyro off. Maneuverability is excellent, aided by the combination of IPS pods and a progressive bow thruster, allowing precise handling in tight quarters. The joystick and bow thruster controls are conveniently located close together, facilitating ease of operation during docking and close-quarters maneuvers.

Conclusion

The Absolute Nevada 68 is a well-designed, comfortable, and capable cruising yacht. It combines spacious and thoughtfully arranged helm stations with excellent visibility and operational ergonomics. The boat’s mechanical layout supports ease of maintenance and efficient systems management. On the water, it delivers stable, responsive handling and a smooth ride, with effective stabilization and maneuvering aids. Its size and weight contribute to a steady offshore-capable platform, though acceleration is measured. Overall, the Nevada 68 is a refined vessel that balances performance, comfort, and functionality, suitable for owner-operators seeking a capable long-range cruiser.
