Blue Sky is a cutter rigged ketch with a full keel, and full displacement. She is a turn key bluewater cruiser that is ready to cross oceans, enjoy the local islands or be a most comfortable live aboard sailboat. Originally a Southern California boat, she completed a 5.5 year circumnavigation with a family of four before returning to SoCal.
Only 28 of the 45s were built due to Down East Yachts founder, and legendary designer, Bob Poole passing just five years after starting the company. This boat is a one of only a few one of only a few cutters built. The boat was revered as one of the finest bluewater cruisers when she was introduced in 1977. She has impeccable character and build quality from bow to stern.
This vessel has never been neglected and is in ready-to-sail shape on day one.
The pedigree of Down East Yachts is unmatched as they were designed as comfortable, stable voyaging sailboats built with the highest quality materials. The hull is quite literally bullet proof with the fiberglass at the coaming rail being over 1.25 thick. Solid fiberglass decks all around. The fully enclosed cockpit makes foul weather sailing very comfortable.
The boat is a center cockpit, cutter rigged vessel with a high cut yankee jib giving the owner lots of sail plan options while underway. She sails comfortably in 7 knots of wind and will regularly cruise between 6.5 and 8 knots in 10 knots. She motorsails at 7 knots.
The diesel engine is a repowered 2004 Perkins Diesel. The layout below is 3 cabins, 2 heads, and large saloon with galley. There is a workroom behind the stairs.
The is a large stainless pulpit forward. A very spacioius center cockpit with canvas and eisenglass midships with a large stainless davit systerm in the stern.
Below decks has a large Queen sized V Berth forward with adjoining head. The is a smaller 2 bunk cabin forward as well.
The main saloon is large and has comfortable seating around a large dining table for 8+. The galley is spacious with twin sinks, a Force 10 gimbaled stove and oven. A large refrigeration system holds many cubic feet. A standard Insulated Ice box is also in the galley. Rear is a took room behind the stairs. The aft cabin is huge full king size bed with adjoing bathroom and desk area.
