Santa Cruz Sailboats Information

Santa Cruz Sailboats has a 35 year history of designing and building high performance, high quality sailing yachts. It all started in 1971 when Bill Lee, a legend in the art of design, founded Santa Cruz Yachts.

Throughout the 70's several noteworthy Santa Cruz sailboats were launched and successfully raced, but it was the 68' sled Merlin that was a record setter, putting Santa Cruz Yachts and Bill Lee in the books. Merlin's fast and flawless handling of the high seas in the Single-handed Farallones Race in 1977 prompted an entry into the Transpac later that year. Merlin not only won that race, but set a record pace, completing the trip from LA to Honolulu in 8 days 11 hours and one minute. A record that held for 20 years, only to be broken by another Santa Cruz 70, Pyewacket.

The remainder of the 70's and the following decade saw the launch of the Santa Cruz 33's, the Santa Cruz 40's and the Santa Cruz 50's. In 1996, the SC 52, a culmination of clever design and craftsmenship and ultra-light technology, earned Sailing World's Boat of the Year Award.

2002, 2004 and 2007 brought more well deserved acclaim to santa Cruz Yachts as they brought win after win to the Pacific Cup and Transpac races. In 2010 the company moved to Annapolis, MD where three new racer/cruisers were added to the range, a 37, a 43 and a 51/52.

Santa Cruz Yachts has clearly defined itself as a leader in providing performance luxury yachts.
