Boat Features

The Sea Ray SDX is an open-bow day boat line built for flat-water and protected-water fun, with the SDX 250 sitting as the entry point and the SDX 270 above it. Each hull is offered several ways: outboard power, a traditional inboard sterndrive, and a dedicated Surf edition that uses a forward-facing sterndrive so the propeller tucks roughly 38 inches up under the hull, well away from the swim platform. The 250 carries up to 12 people in flat water and is set up as a social, easy-to-operate boat with deep storage, a small cabin and water-sports capability, which makes it a common first "big boat" for families stepping up. Sea Ray has been building boats for more than 65 years, and the SDX family reflects that with 316-grade stainless steel hardware and hard-wearing seat materials that tolerate wet gear.

The Sea Ray SDX 250 outboard runs a Mercury V8, available in 250 hp and 300 hp forms, and reaches a top speed of about 42 knots. Real-world fuel consumption stays moderate: roughly 40 liters per hour at 25 knots and 3,800 rpm, climbing to 60 liters per hour in the high 20s to low 30s, and topping out near 90 liters per hour at wide-open throttle. The hull carries about 21 degrees of deadrise at the transom with pronounced bow flare, so it handles wind chop and boat wash well while staying a true day boat rather than an offshore platform. A bow thruster, electric anchor windlass and trim tabs are fitted, and the outboard layout lets you nose onto a beach to step off the bow.

The Sea Ray SDX 270 measures 27 feet 2 inches overall with an 8-foot-6 beam, a true deep-V hull at 21 degrees of deadrise, a 65-gallon fuel capacity and a dry weight around 5,900 pounds. The standard engine is a 6.2 MAG MPI rated at 320 hp; the upgrade is an 8.2-liter MerCruiser at 380 hp on the Bravo Three X drive, which pushes the boat to a 50 mph top speed. A comfortable, economical cruise sits near 32 mph at roughly 3,300 to 3,500 rpm. Digital throttle and shift, power steering, a self-planing hull and a Simrad display round out the helm, and the 270 is also available in outboard and Surf versions.

The SDX 250 Surf and SDX 270 Surf build a shapeable wake-surf wave despite the sterndrive layout. Ballast totals 1,550 pounds when the tanks are filled, and a launch-control system adjusts how the throttle eases on, settable from level one for beginners up to level five. Twin 9-inch helm screens let you swap and customize the displayed information and tune the wave on the fly through boat speed, hull trim attitude and independent port and starboard trim tabs.

Inside, the SDX 250 layout centers on a beamy open bow with a varnished wooden table, anchor windlass hidden under a foam SeaDeck hatch, four cup holders, close to seven USB ports and wireless charging pads on each side. A small cabin offers an optional toilet, a sink and a berth suitable for kids to nap. The premium stereo adds a subwoofer to the Fusion audio, and storage is extensive throughout the cockpit and under-floor. Equipment includes two freshwater showers (bow and transom), a four-step telescopic swim ladder to starboard, an optional cooler or electric fridge, a water-sports tower, and an optional ski tow pole and bow boarding ladder.
