Boat Features

The Sea-Doo Wake Pro 230 is a three-seat personal watercraft built around tow sports, aimed at families who want to wakeboard, water ski and tube without buying a dedicated wakeboard boat. It rides on Sea-Doo's ST3 platform and carries a 230-horsepower supercharged Rotax engine (the 1630 ACE four-stroke), which gives better fuel efficiency than the 300 and 325 models while still pulling skiers and boarders out of the water quickly. Equipment that's optional or absent on other runabouts comes standard here: a retractable ski pylon, a removable padded wakeboard rack, and the Bluetooth audio system. Listed weight is 815 pounds, and the hull is full fiberglass made from Sea-Doo's CM-Tech process.

Performance figures land where you'd expect for a family-focused supercharged craft. Top speed measures around 65 mph, with dealers quoting 65 to 70 mph realistically; in sport mode one outing recorded 84 km/h from a standing start. The knife-like vertical bow borrows from the RXP-X 300 with a 23-degree deadrise and two side concaves, so it splits chop well, though it can lean hard and break traction in aggressive throttled turns. Wide hard edges at the outer hull and deeper, lower-set footwells give the ST3 strong stability, enough that a passenger can pull themselves aboard from the water and move around without feeling unbalanced.

The helm uses a 7.6- to 7.8-inch full-color digital display showing speed mode, ski mode, trim, fuel and other vitals, all controlled from thumb pads on the handlebars rather than physical buttons. Ski mode offers five launch settings, from the smoothest ramp to the most aggressive for heavier skiers, and locks in a tow speed (adjustable in roughly 28 to 60 km/h steps) so the operator can ease off the throttle without canceling it and focus on watching the water and the person being towed. Intelligent Throttle Control provides idle no-wake speeds, while Intelligent Brake and Reverse starts the craft in neutral and an Intelligent Debris-Free pump clears sucked-up debris at the push of a button. The handlebars adjust through several positions with the dash mounted to move with them.

Out back, the Wake Pro 230 has a retractable BRP ski pylon that extends to three times its height for a better, taut rope angle, plus molded handles for a rear-facing spotter and a reinforced tow eye for heavier loads. An extended swim platform with a folding step and boarding hand grips makes climbing aboard and strapping on skis easier. The LinQ accessory platform integrated into the rear deck accepts clip-on gear including a 4.2-gallon cooler, a 4-gallon fuel caddy, a watertight dry bag, or the 13.5-gallon cooler shared with the Fish Pro. The wakeboard rack snaps onto the passenger-side bond rail and lifts off in seconds when you switch from boarding to tubing.

Storage is a strong point, with a massive bin under the handlebars reached without leaning over the bars, plus a small glovebox with a waterproof phone case and an optional USB charging port. With the optional divider and cargo bag, capacity comes to about 27 gallons. The standard Bluetooth premium audio system is rated at 100 to 150 watts depending on model year, and for 2021 all Wake Pro models include sound from the factory.

Color schemes have included teal blue metallic with lava gray and a mint green finish with orange accents. MSRP was listed at $15,599 for a 2019 unit with the stereo, and $18,399 on a later feature-packed example. When shopping a Wake Pro 230 for sale, weigh the absence of footwell drains and small rearview mirrors, and note that the black plastic around the handlebars can discolor if stored outside without a UV cover.
