The Scout 275 Dorado is the largest model in Scout's Dorado line, a dual-console design built with a walkthrough windshield that opens the bow to the helm. It works as both a family cruiser and a fishing platform, with twin live wells, rod holders and rocket launchers for serious days on the water, and enough seating to take a large group out. The hull carries Scout's Carolina flare, which pushes spray off to the sides and keeps bow passengers dry in a chop. At roughly 27 feet, it handles waves well and stays comfortable running back home.
Power on the boats found for sale comes from a twin outboard package, most commonly twin 200-horsepower Yamaha engines, with twin 200-horsepower Mercury outboards fitted on some hulls. The helm runs on Scout's C-Zone digital switching, which routes the electrical functions through a Garmin touchscreen — an 8208 display is standard, and many boats are upgraded to a 12-inch Garmin GPS/chartplotter. A key fob lets you power the boat's systems up before you step aboard, with programmable buttons for accent lighting and other accessory circuits, plus a remote battery control so you can light up the boat from the dock. Backup toggle switches provide redundancy, and a voltage meter shows battery state. Lenco trim tabs with indicators, Yamaha gauges, a Yamaha binnacle, Fusion audio and a Garmin VHF round out the helm.
The captain and co-pilot seats slide and swivel like automobile seats, fold up into leaning posts, and include armrests and bolsters. A large center storage compartment gives access to the batteries, and every through-hull runs on a bronze seacock so the water systems can be shut off in an emergency, with fuel-water separators back aft. Inside the console door sit the electronics, a cargo net for keys and phones, pull-out drawers and a large head compartment with a pump-out head and a sink — proper for a 27-footer.
The cockpit converts between entertaining and fishing. All the cockpit seats and the rear seat stow away to open the floor for casting, and the walkthrough transom — exclusive to the 275 — uses a wave gate: the bolster flips back and the transom door folds down for boarding, swimming and a stable rear fishing platform. Underfoot are two large finished, drained fish boxes, twin live wells, an automatic bilge pump and bilge access. A fiberglass hard top with an interior handrail and accent lighting covers the helm. An optional refrigerator with small freezer sits on the port side, a freshwater sink with removable cutting board on the starboard side, and a grill can be ordered in place of the refrigerator. A removable cockpit table mounts on a pedestal that stows in the head and rotates port, starboard or aft.
In the bow, a fold-out picnic table with a built-in cooler, fold-down armrests, cup holders, grab rails and under-seat life-jacket storage make a lounging area, and an optional beach ladder folds in and out of the anchor well for boarding at a sandbar. The windlass has both foot-pedal and helm controls, and the stem through-hull is fully finished so water drains overboard rather than into the bilge. Construction uses hand-laid fiberglass with injected foam in the compartments. Common options to weigh when buying include a full canvas enclosure with isinglass aft sides and thicker StrataGlass forward sections, upgraded JL Audio, a ski tow and a matched trailer.
