Boat Features

The Regal 33 XO is the largest express cruiser in Regal's outboard lineup, an open-helm design with eisenglass clears that close off the back of the boat rather than a fully enclosed salon. It measures 34 feet 1 inch length overall with a 10-foot-4-inch beam and a 35-inch draft, and its hull was drawn by Craven Hunt Associates, the same naval architecture firm behind Regal's 50 SAV. A sharp V entry carries back to a 21-degree deadrise, giving it the displacement and weight to push through ferry wash and ocean slop without jarring its passengers. It suits a cruising couple wanting overnight capability in a trailerable package, and works equally as a family day boat or entertaining platform.

Power comes from twin 300-horsepower Yamaha 4.2-liter V6 outboards, the only engine option, running the Yamaha DES digital steering and throttle system. With an estimated test weight of 11,690 pounds and the engines turning 6,000 RPM, top speed was recorded at 49.5 mph, with best cruise at 4,500 RPM and 37.5 mph. At that speed the boat burns 28 gallons per hour for 1.3 mpg and a range of 181 miles while holding a 10% reserve of the 150-gallon fuel capacity. On the water it holds a comfortable 27-knot cruise through chop and reaches roughly 43 knots flat out, staying dry over the bow even with following and crossing seas.

The helm has a soft-touch dash framed in leather with a 12-inch Garmin multifunction display, a Fusion stereo, VHF and the Yamaha command link readout. A bow thruster is standard, and the HellMaster (Optimus) joystick moves the engines independently for docking, with a sea-station hold function that locks the boat on a heading or holds position via GPS. The helm seat is 38 inches wide with a flip-up bolster and self-draining storage beneath, and the steering wheel is stainless steel with a steering knob for close-quarters work. A 7.5 kW generator with underwater exhaust sits in the aft storage compartment alongside the AC system and hot water heater.

The cockpit is built around Regal's multi-position Ultra Lounge, a 4-foot-10-inch bench that adjusts into four positions and slides aft electrically by up to 11 inches to open room at the swim platform or in the cockpit. A refreshment center offers an electric smokeless grill, a single-basin stainless sink, a refrigerator and a 22-inch flat-screen TV on an electric lift. The optional Power Tower or hardtop lowers at the touch of a button and can be driven in the lowered position, and a SureShade extends aft to shade the cockpit nearly to the engines. The single-piece fiberglass swim platforms on each side run about two feet wide and three feet deep, with a stainless reboarding ladder concealed to port.

Belowdecks the cabin offers 6-foot-3-inch headroom, among the best in its class, with hull-side glass windows and overhead hatches for natural light. The galley has a two-burner stove, stainless sink, microwave and refrigerator, opposite a cabinet holding the 110-volt and 12-volt electrical panels. A wet head with an electric toilet, full shower and fixed bulkhead sprayer sits to port. The mid-cabin berth measures 6 feet by 6 feet 4 inches with its own 22-inch TV, while the forward dinette converts to a 6-foot berth, and a 33-inch TV faces the seating. A bow sun lounge measures 3 feet 10 inches wide by 4 feet 9 inches long with a 24-inch rail forward and a polished stainless through-stem anchor roller.

Build quality is a consistent strength, with double-stitched custom-embroidered upholstery and a hull that runs solid without rattles. Buyers weighing the Regal boat 33 XO price should factor in options such as the hardtop, SureShade, spot and flood light and central vac, since a new example sits at the upper end of the segment; well-kept low-hour used boats with fresh bottom paint represent the value end. Cross-shoppers typically compare it against the Sea Ray 320 Sundancer, Galeon 325 GTO and Beneteau Gran Turismo 32.
