The Malibu M235 is the flagship of Malibu's wake and surf line, a 23-and-a-half-foot boat built for riders who want top-tier wakes without a long options list. It sits deep in the water, which shapes both the seating and the wave it throws. The M235 carries up to 4,000 pounds of ballast and was designed from the bottom up to produce large, pro-level wakes and surf waves out of the box.

Power comes from a PCM Monsoon 6.2L 575, where the 575 figure is the torque rating rather than horsepower, a number that matters for getting a heavily ballasted hull onto plane. With the Power Wedge II in use, the Malibu M235 boat reached plane in 2.8 seconds, hit 25 mph in 5.6 seconds, and recorded a top speed of 43.1 mph. The Power Wedge II also pairs with a surf pipe for shaping the wave.

The surf wave is the standout. Run at 11 mph with four people aboard, full ballast and the wedge at setting 1, the wave is clean the whole way through with a long pocket and a lift at the end. The M235 carries more vertical lip than earlier Malibu models, giving the wave a transition from mellow to vert that rates among the best surf boats available.

The helm is built around a 12-inch Viper 2 touchscreen that displays engine vitals, ballast, presets and depth on a single page, with the central cluster changing while the side information stays fixed. A Malibu Command wheel puts cruise control, Power Wedge up and down, surf side selection and stereo volume on the steering wheel, and an analog control dial adjusts speed, wedge, surf gate and audio without taking your eyes off the water. A smartphone cradle handles Bluetooth playback.

The cockpit and deck are finished in Malibu's soft-grip material, offered in suede or sterling, running from the transom through the cockpit and into the bow, with the same grippy surface on the gunnels for stepping in and out. Transom seating sits at a comfortable height with a step-in feature that hinges to either form a solid step or a backrest cushion. A wake-view bench folds out so passengers can watch the rider, and a transom filler cushion converts the rear into a sunbathing area. Storage is deep throughout, with bins that lift out for plug-and-play ballast bags, room for boards, and a drop-in Yeti cooler. The bow uses a pickle-fork design with a removable center cushion, a bow ladder, armrest anchor storage and a filler cushion to change the layout.

Equipment runs heavily standard rather than optional. The G4 tower is standard and collapses easily, carrying Rev 8 speakers by Wet Sounds, PCM clamping racks, and forward- and rear-facing LED lighting. The boat adds docking lights, underwater lights, USB and 12-volt outlets at the cup holders, multiple dry boxes, a battery maintainer with extension-cord hookup, high-density foam flooring, and a triple-axle Malibu trailer with 18-inch black wheels and a bow step. Shoppers looking at the M235 should expect a fully loaded flagship where there is little left to add at the dealership.
