Boat Features

G3 Angler boats are aluminum deep-V fishing rigs built in Lebanon, Missouri, ranging from compact 17-foot tiller models up to the 21-foot V21 F. The line is built around serious freshwater fishing — bass on large impoundments, walleye, musky, and salmon trolling on the Great Lakes — while several models double as recreational craft for skiing and tubing. Popular configurations include the V17 Angler tiller, the V19 SF dual console, the multi-purpose V21 F, and the 178c, all running the sharp deep-V hull. Because G3 is a Yamaha boat brand, every model leaves the factory matched with a Yamaha outboard and the correct prop.

The boats are riveted rather than welded, using 5052 marine alloy in thicknesses of .08, .10, or .125 inch depending on hull size, with 24 rivets per foot and doubled rivets at the seams to reduce the chance of leaks. The bottom is double-plated with two layers of aluminum for protection against rocks and stumps, and closed-cell foam is shot into the compartments for flotation, structural support, and a quieter, more solid ride in chop. G3 traces back to the Applebee Boat Company founded in 1960, was rebranded Generation 3 in 1993, and has been owned by Yamaha since 1997.

Performance varies by model and engine. The V19 SF carries a maximum 200-horsepower Yamaha VMAX, runs past 50 mph, and holds a 40-gallon fuel tank for long runs. The V17 tiller is rated for a 90-horsepower Yamaha — higher than the 75-horse rating common to many 17-footers — reaches 40 mph, and carries roughly 19 gallons of fuel. The V21 F tested with a Yamaha VMAX SHO 250 hit planing speed in under three seconds, reached 30 mph in under five, topped out near 55 mph, and held a cruising range of over 170 miles. The 17-foot-8 178c with a Yamaha 115 SHO runs about 45 mph solo and 42–43 mph loaded with a couple of anglers.

Helms are well equipped for the size of boat. The dual-console V19 SF carries five gauges — trim, speed, tachometer, fuel, and battery — plus a master power switch that cuts everything at day's end, a tilt steering wheel, swivel seat, Bluetooth stereo, and a USB charge port. The V17 tiller adds RPM up/down trolling control on the handle for fine-tuning speed without a kicker. Larger boats accept big graphs; the V21 F mounted a 10-inch Solix, and the 178c was networked with dual 10-inch Garmin Ultra 2 units and a Garmin Force Kraken trolling motor.

Storage is a defining feature throughout the Angler line. A center rod locker on air shocks runs from the cockpit up under the bow, with tubes for several rods on each side plus an open chute that holds 10 to 15 rods in sleeves or a water ski. Boats carry multiple dry storage boxes, slotted tackle-box compartments, a center live well with bait-bucket cutouts, and dedicated battery storage. The V21 F runs 36-volt 31-series batteries for a Minn Kota Ultrex with a 60-inch shaft, has factory provisions for a kicker motor and integrated steering, and uses T-rails around the bow and cockpit. Most models seat up to six using removable pedestal seats and fold-down jump seats.

G3 backs the hull with a non-prorated lifetime warranty and covers the rest of the boat bow-to-stern for five years, also non-prorated. The V17 Angler with boat, motor, and trailer falls in the mid-30s, while the V19 SF runs in the upper 50s depending on configuration, with the engine accounting for roughly half the cost. Buyers weighing a G3 Angler should match engine choice to fuel capacity and intended water — the bigger VMAX and SHO packages deliver the speed and range, while the tiller and 178c suit anglers splitting time between large lakes and smaller bodies of water.
