Boat Features

The Cobalt R6 is a 26-foot bowrider rated for 14 passengers, and within the Cobalt lineup it holds a specific distinction: it is the smallest model offered with a fully enclosed head, which sets it apart from the R4 and the smaller CS boats. That bathroom is a standard feature and a primary reason buyers choose the R6, with a porcelain Dometic electric vacuum-flush head, a sink, fiberglass-lined flooring, a snap-in seagrass mat, and a vent window. The boat is available in several configurations, including an outboard model, a sterndrive model, and an R6 Surf built for wakesurfing.

Power depends on the configuration. The outboard R6 carries a Yamaha 300 XB with a digital electronic steering cylinder and digital shift rather than older-style hydraulics. The sterndrive R6 runs a Volvo Penta V8, offered as a 300-horsepower and a 350-horsepower aluminum-block, aluminum-head, closed-cooled engine. The R6 Surf steps up to a 380-horsepower Volvo Penta V8 closed-cooled engine paired with a patented forward drive built specifically for Cobalt to draw in more water for a cleaner wave. On the water the outboard R6 cruises at 30 mph at 3,800 rpm, planes quickly, holds hard turns without sliding thanks to its deadrise, and runs without creaks or rattles.

The helm uses the Cobalt glass cockpit built around dual Garmin touchscreens, available in 8-inch, 9-inch, or 10-inch sizes, set in black anodized aluminum. One screen can show navigation while the other displays engine instrumentation through the Volvo Penta or Yamaha display. Standard equipment includes a wireless phone charger, Lenco electric trim tab controls, windlass controls, a Fusion head unit inset into the dash, and an upgraded leather-wrapped tilt wheel with stainless inlays. The driver gets an electrically actuated bucket seat with a flip-up bolster, and the squared-off 90-degree windshield adds interior volume while improving sightlines.

Deck layout is organized for both lounging and water sports. The transom has a fold-down swim step that extends deeper into the water, a pull-out dive ladder, a freshwater shower, JL Audio speakers, and a Fusion swim-up stereo remote. The rear seat flips between aft-facing arena seating and a sun pad with an integrated flip-up backrest, plus a jump seat for watching swimmers. Storage runs throughout: three gasket-sealed, drainable, fiberglass in-floor compartments, an aft ski locker that extends roughly eight feet, a concealed windlass with a Lumar polished stainless anchor on full chain, and a Cobalt cooler bag. A folding, articulating tower with a rotating Bimini sun shade is available so the boat clears lifts and garage doors.

The bow seats on one level with deep cushions, flip-down armrests, stainless grab rails and cleats, USB charging on both sides, and cup holders set down out of the wind. A sun pad option adds three filler cushions to convert the bow into a day bed, and the cushions stow easily on hinged compartments. Interiors are commonly finished in caramel or caramel carbon with C-deck nonskid flooring, diamond-stitched upholstery, and darker contact-point fabric to hide fingerprints. Hull color choices include frost gray with a black boot stripe. The R6 Surf carries hard ballast totaling roughly 2,450 pounds across three tanks (about 2,350 pounds added to a hull near 6,100 pounds), Malibu Surf Gate wave-shaping technology, a Harman Kardon stereo, heat at the helm, and a tandem-axle Heritage custom trailer. Across all versions, the fiberglass-lined storage resists the mildew smell of carpeted compartments, and the gasket-sealed engine hatch on dual stainless struts opens to a clean, accessible, well-labeled engine bay.
