Boat Features

The Bennington R23 pontoon is a triple-tube luxury model positioned at the upper end of Bennington's lineup, built for families who want speed, water sports and comfortable cruising on one platform. It can be ordered with the ESP elliptical sport tube package, which pairs 25-inch outer tubes with a wider 32-inch elliptical center tube. That center log adds stability and allows for more rear horsepower, and the result is a boat that banks into corners and carves hard turns more like a ski boat than a conventional pontoon. The R series is also the only Bennington line fitted with the wide heavy-duty rail.

On the water the Bennington R23 pontoon boat reaches top speeds in excess of 41 miles per hour when fitted with the ESP performance package. Power comes from a 4.2-liter Yamaha 300 V6 outboard, enough to pull tubers and kids with strong hole shot, and the lifting strakes engineered into the tubes help the boat plane and accelerate. At a relaxed cruise the engine settles around 2,900 RPM. Routine maintenance stays simple: the Yamaha cowling lifts off to reach the oil filter, oil fill and dipstick, and the lower unit lube drains through two screws.

The raised helm sits high enough to give a clear sightline down the lake. It carries a Simrad display (a 7-inch screen on many builds), milled aluminum lighted toggle and rocker switches, a tilt three-spoke steering wheel, the Yamaha digital control system, and analog gauges including a tachometer, GPS speedometer that reads off satellite, trim gauge, fuel gauge and voltmeter. Audio is handled by a Rockford Fosgate or Kicker system feeding backlit speakers, with stereo remotes at the bow and stern. A storage pouch at the helm doubles as a wireless phone charger, and the captain's chair reclines, swivels and slides forward.

Seating uses the Fastback swing-back layout with four loungers and pillow-top cushions built from multiple foam densities tuned for the backrest, lumbar, seat base and under the knees. Upholstery is Simtex vinyl, a high-grade material that resists stains, mold and mildew, stays cooler in the sun, and carries a 7-year warranty. Both port and starboard helm-area seats have drop-down armrests with built-in cup holders, and select positions add a movable headrest and a wireless charger. Storage is extensive, with cavernous in-floor compartments for skis and wakeboards, watertight lockers under the seats, a built-in bow cooler, a single-piece treated wood table, removable cup holders, and a changing room with curtain beneath the rear swing-back lounge.

Build details set the R23 apart. The deck uses marine-grade plywood fastened over quarter-inch by three-inch cross channels spaced closely along the boat, with everything through-bolted using elevator bolts and nuts rather than deck screws or rivets, the bolt heads countersunk so they don't telegraph through the vinyl matting. The underside of the center tubes carries a full aluminum shield to protect the plywood and quiet water noise. Storage areas are ventilated through small black intake vents where the rails meet the deck. Bennington backs the deck-and-down structure, hull, and all wood and metal components with lifetime warranty coverage against manufacturer defects.

The Bennington R23 can be configured with the blackout package, which finishes the rails, bimini frame, side skin and badging in black, along with smooth side panels in metallic curell rather than crimped panels. Other notable options include the Vantage 3M wrap and guard system that sits at the waterline to prevent tube staining, color-changing LED side illumination, LED docking lights, 6-inch recessed stainless cleats, gate glides with built-in courtesy lights, a wheelchair-accessible front gate, and the wide-step Lily reboarding ladder with a pull strap so you don't bend into the water. The fuel fill sits on the port side near the front gate. A quick-release bimini lets one person raise or lower the top in about 30 seconds.
