Boat Features

The Bayliner Ciera 2655 is a mid-size sports cruiser built for day cruising and weekend overnighting, with a cabin that sleeps up to six. A defining feature is its beam of 9 feet 5 inches, roughly a foot wider than most 26- to 27-foot sports cruisers, which translates into noticeably more room in both the cockpit and the cabin. Buyers shopping Bayliner Ciera boats for sale should know that 2002 was the first model year of the redesigned white hull; from 2003 onward the same boat was renamed the Bayliner 265, so older and newer hulls are worth comparing directly.

Power on the Bayliner 2655 boat varies by year and configuration. Gas versions carry a 5.7-liter MerCruiser V8, rated at 250 horsepower in one example, with electronic fuel injection and a Bravo Three dual-prop outdrive. A diesel option pairs a Volvo Penta KAD32 turbo diesel at 270 horsepower with a Volvo Duoprop sterndrive. The counter-rotating twin propellers get the boat up on plane quickly, hold it on plane at slower speeds, and counteract prop walk so the hull tracks straight, letting you set the wheel dead ahead when running a long river stretch.

The cockpit on the redesigned hull is a single level with no steps to trip over. A fold-flat transom bench seat tucks away to open up the back of the boat, and an L-shaped lounger to port has a reversible backrest so guests can face forward behind the windscreen or aft around the central cocktail table. A dedicated helm seat sits to starboard. The swim platform carries nonskid and a grab rail across the transom, with a recessed three-step boarding ladder and a walkthrough transom gate. Many boats are fitted with a deck shower with hot and cold water, giving the 2655 two showers in total.

At the helm, equipment includes a Garmin GPSMAP 188 Sounder color display, a Standard Horizon depth sounder, plus RPM, voltmeter and fuel gauges, trim tab controls, a tilt steering wheel, rocker switches for blower, bilge pumps and accessories, and a VHF radio. A Kenwood stereo appears on several boats. A walkthrough windshield and molded-in steps lead forward to the bow, which has a high bow rail, a stainless steel windlass and a forward cushion.

Down below, the cabin offers a forward V-berth that converts to a dinette when the pedestal table drops and a filler cushion is added, plus a mid-cabin double berth with a double-size mattress and its own window for light and air. The galley runs a 110-volt electric stove (single-burner alcohol/electric on some boats), a microwave, a stainless sink with hot and cold water, cabinet storage and a refrigerator. A fully fiberglass-lined head holds a marine toilet and a pull-out RV-style shower. Air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and a camper-back canvas enclosure are fitted on various examples.

Build quality holds up well on well-kept boats, with gelcoat that stays glossy, stainless steel rails and cleats, and a molded nonskid deck. When evaluating a Bayliner Ciera boat, check the canvas and clears for mold, torn zips and patching, confirm whether the cockpit carpet and upholstery are original, and inspect the anchor chain and locker. On sterndrive models, look for recent service of the bellows, gimbal bearing, water pump impeller and anodes, and check the transom corners, which take knocks during berthing.
