Boat Features

The Bayliner Ciera 2855 is a 28-foot single-engine cruiser built for families who want a budget-friendly way onto the water with enough room to spend the night aboard. Models from the late 1990s through the mid-2000s share the same formula: a wide, open cockpit, a walk-through windshield to the bow, and a surprisingly spacious cabin for the length. Used Bayliner Ciera boats for sale frequently turn up still carrying their original full canvas enclosure that runs from the arch straight down, and a 2006 example has been offered around $59,000. These are yacht-certified hulls, with the certification tag visible at the helm.

The cockpit is the headline feature of the Bayliner Ciera boat. The rear bench seat folds flush to open the whole space, and the L-shaped lounge uses flip-over seat backs: push the backrest forward and a footrest kicks down to create a forward-facing lounge, or flip it back for traditional U-shaped seating around a table. Three adults sit comfortably in the converted lounge with room to squeeze a fourth. The swim platform on many boats has been fitted with SeaDek, and equipment includes a transom shower, side boarding steps, stainless steel grab rails, and a boarding ladder tucked under the starboard side of the platform.

At the helm, the dash carries a tilt steering wheel with burl wood accents, a full array of gauges, toggle switches, trim tabs, a VHF radio, and a Lowrance GPS with a compass mounted forward. The flat bow deck has non-skid patterning and side steps so you can move through the flip-open windshield and out to the anchor without trouble. The single inboard-outboard engine is accessed under a cockpit seat that lifts to reveal a relatively compact engine bay.

Below deck is where the 2855 separates itself from other 28-footers. Large side windows and as many as three overhead hatches flood the cabin with light. A wide forward V-berth sits up front with a hatch and port and starboard portholes for ventilation, and the dinette converts to an additional berth, so the boat sleeps two forward, one or two at the dinette, plus the mid-cabin. The galley is well-sized for the length, with a stainless sink, a two-burner cooktop, a microwave that sets up top, a refrigerator, and storage below. Some boats carry air conditioning, including a rooftop air unit, a notable feature on a boat this size.

The mid-cabin runs the full beam of the boat and has an unusually large entrance, doubling as both a sleeping area and storage. The head is fiberglass-lined with a manual pump toilet, sink, mirror, vanity, and overhead storage, and it functions as a wet head with a deep lip that keeps shower water from running into the cabin. Standing headroom is generous enough that someone 6-foot-2 or 6-foot-3 can stand without ducking.

When weighing used Bayliner Ciera boats for sale, check the condition of the canvas enclosure, the upholstery, and the single I/O engine, since many examples are now 20-plus years old. Boats with redone fabrics, updated electronics, and the optional air conditioning command the most interest, and the layout has proven durable enough that even rough project hulls clean up well.
