Boat Features

The Azimut Magellano 66 is the Italian builder's modern interpretation of the trawler yacht, sitting within the Magellano range of serious long-range cruising yachts alongside the 43, 53 and 76. It measures 20.1 meters (about 66 feet) with a beam quoted between 5.35 meters and 17 feet 10 inches across the boats built, and a draft around 1.58 meters. Displacement runs from roughly 37.5 tons empty to 44.5 tons fully loaded. This is a liveaboard-focused boat built for spending weeks aboard, with storage worked into nearly every space, and it sits right on the cusp between owner-operation and running with crew.

Performance comes from the dual-mode hull Azimut calls D2P, which transitions from full displacement to semi-displacement to stay efficient and stable across a wide speed range. Boats have been delivered with twin MAN 850-horsepower diesels or twin Volvo Penta D13 800-horsepower engines, both on conventional shaft drives with V-drive. Top speed is around 24 knots, with fast cruising near 18 to 19 knots. The Magellano 66 range is its calling card: one boat is rated at roughly 500 nautical miles at 19 knots, while at displacement speeds the figures climb dramatically. At 10 knots fuel burn is about 40 liters per hour (4 liters per mile) and at 8 knots about 20 liters per hour, giving up to 1,000 to 1,800 nautical miles depending on fuel load. Fuel capacity is quoted at 4,500 liters on one build and 3,780 liters (1,000 gallons) on another, with around 1,000 liters of water.

The lower helm sits to starboard at the forward end of a long single-level main deck, with adjustable bolster seats, twin Raymarine touchscreen displays under a single wiper, and a sliding side window for communicating with crew. The boat carries Side-Power bow and stern thrusters with joystick control layered over the shaft drives, plus a hydraulic package on some boats, making mooring straightforward. The galley is forward and semi-enclosed, with an induction hob, oven, large refrigeration and a porthole-shaped serving hatch with a drop-down blind. A port-side door from the galley lets crew move around the boat without crossing the saloon. The helm can be left fully open for an owner-driver layout or closed off with a pocket door.

The exterior offers three outdoor living areas: a U-shaped cockpit with a fixed table and a small glass transom window, a foredeck lounge with drop-down table that converts to a sunbed, and the flybridge. Tall, hip-height bulwarks with teak cappings and handrails make the wide side decks safe to walk, with boarding gates on both sides. The flybridge carries a second helm, a wet bar with sink, refrigerator, ice maker and grill, and a forward sun lounge. Most Magellano 66s sold have a hardtop with a sunroof, though some are specified open. Carbon-fiber poles support a sun awning, and the foredeck lockers swallow fenders, lines and a life raft.

Below deck the layout runs to three or four cabins. The full-beam master amidships has hull-side windows, two full-length wardrobes, a built-in safe, a desk or snug, and an ensuite running forward along the port side with a walk-in shower. The VIP in the bow has an island berth, opening ports and an ensuite, and a twin guest cabin has ensuite access shared with a bunk cabin; that fourth cabin can instead be specified as a utility room or study. An aft crew cabin with single berth and ensuite serves boats run with crew. Azimut's in-house superyacht interior team styled the boat, and the engine room offers over 7 feet of headroom with space for a 19.5-kilowatt Kohler generator and a water maker. With several new and brokerage examples on the market, some offering buyer financing, the Azimut Magellano 66 for sale suits buyers weighing engine choice and cabin configuration against their cruising plans.
