Boat Features

The Azimut 50 Fly is a 50-foot flybridge cruiser from Azimut Yachts, measuring close to 16 metres in length, and it sits at the heart of the builder's flybridge range as a family-sized, owner-operator boat. Its styling carries Azimut's mirrored window sweep along the hull side, and the defining feature is a flybridge stretched right back to the stern for extra living space. Boats listed as the Azimut 50 flybridge for sale span model years including 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020, with the UK show debut of this model priced at £995,000 ex-VAT.

Power on the Azimut 50 fly comes from twin Volvo Penta D11 diesels, offered in 670 hp form and in 725 hp form on later 2020 boats. Drive configuration varies: some are V-drive shaft boats with Volvo joystick control and a bow thruster (with an optional stern thruster), while others run Volvo IPS pods, which free up beam-to-beam storage in the lower deck. The top speed of the Azimut 50 is over 32 knots at 2,450 rpm, minimum planing speed is 11.6 knots at 1,350 rpm, and a comfortable cruise sits in the mid-to-upper 20s. The hull uses a resin and sandwich structure to keep weight down, with a power-to-weight figure of about 15 kilos per horsepower light and 17.5 kilos fully loaded. Zipwake trim tabs hold the boat level, and stability comes without fin stabilizers, though 2020 examples add a Seakeeper gyro.

Both helm stations mirror each other, each with twin Raymarine displays (up to 25-inch MFDs), autopilot, Volvo Penta engine displays and joystick control. The flybridge helm sits to port with a single seat in white leather, while the lower helm offers two adjustable bucket seats with fold-up bolsters in dark chocolate leather and an opening side window for fresh air and dockside communication. Anchor windlass with chain wash, bow thruster and engine-room extractor controls are grouped on backlit keypads.

The flybridge layout is a strong selling point: a large U-shaped dinette with hardtop and opening soft-top section, a forward sunpad, a food-prep station with a Kenyon electric grill, sink and fridge, and an aft seating zone with sofas and a coffee table clear of the hardtop. Internal stairs, rather than a ladder, link it to the cockpit. The cockpit has a U-shaped settee, table, ice maker, a fridge drawer under the seat, a cockpit shower and gates port and starboard, with a hydraulic submersible swim platform that takes a tender or jet ski. A crew cabin with head, shower and air conditioning fits under the cockpit as an option, or that space serves as a lazarette.

The Azimut 50 interior uses heat-treated wood with leather upholstery in a warm contemporary style. The galley-up layout keeps the cook on the same level as the saloon, fitted with Miele appliances, an induction hob, oven, dishwasher, twin refrigerator drawers and a 220-litre fridge. The saloon has a U-shaped sofa, a matching love seat, a hi-lo dining table and a pop-up TV, plus a glass china cabinet and drawers fitted for Azimut-branded crockery.

Below deck the boat is a three-cabin layout sleeping six, with a forward VIP holding a centreline queen, a starboard bunk cabin suited to children, and a full-beam midships master with large hull windows, twin hanging lockers and good standing headroom. The VIP shares a forward head that doubles as the day head, and the master has its own private head with separate shower stall. A lobby at the foot of the companionway houses a freezer, a washer-dryer combo and pantry storage; the master drawers total around 2,000 litres and a separate store room holds about 1,200 litres. A pull-out berth in the saloon raises total sleeping capacity to seven or eight. 2020 examples have appeared on the market with freshwater use and low hours, around 177 on the engines, making them worth checking when comparing an Azimut 50 fly for sale.
