The Azimut 53 Fly is the smallest model in Azimut's flybridge range, an Italian-built motor yacht styled by Alberto Mancini with an overall length of 55 ft 1 in and a beam of 16 ft 3 in. It competes directly with flybridge models from Fairline, Princess and Sunseeker. The Azimut 53 price starts at about €1.1 million excluding VAT with the single engine package. A boat optioned with the hardtop, Seakeeper, upgraded Gold navigation package, crew cabin fit-out, upgraded generator and air conditioning comes to just over €1.7 million excluding VAT. When comparing any Azimut 53 flybridge for sale, check which of those extras are fitted, because they account for roughly €500,000 of that figure.

Power comes only from twin 725 hp Volvo Penta D11 diesels on IPS 950 pod drives. Top speed is around 31 knots in typical conditions, and 34 knots has been recorded flat out with a following tide. The natural cruise is 25 knots. Fuel capacity is 634 US gallons, close to 2,500 liters, which gives a range of nearly 400 nautical miles at 25 knots. Fuel consumption is about 170 liters per hour combined at 20 knots. The V-shaped bow handles 1-meter seas without major difficulty. IPS steering stays smooth and balanced, and the turning circle is not wide. Equipped boats carry a Seakeeper 9 gyro stabilizer and a 21 kW generator.

The saloon helm has electrically height-adjustable seats with fold-down bolsters and footrests, an adjustable wheel, and Garmin touchscreen MFDs in the Gold package. The Platinum package upgrades to larger screens. The helm also includes an IPS joystick, a bow thruster control and a VHF. There is no side window or door at the lower helm, so the station has no natural ventilation. On the flybridge, a side molding groups the MFD remote pad, throttles, IPS joystick and bow thruster under the skipper's hand. The navigator sits inboard and can get in and out without disturbing the skipper. Storage at this helm is limited to cup holders and a shallow tray.

A 500 kg hydraulic swim platform launches a tender such as a Williams 325, since there is no tender garage. A transom door leads to an aft crew cabin with a single berth and a wet room, which serves as storage if the optional fit-out is skipped. The cockpit has L-shaped seating and an optional high-low table that drops to form a sunpad. An optional wet bar adds a sink, wine coolers, an ice maker and a fridge. A fully opening hatch links the cockpit to the galley, and covers can enclose the whole area. The side decks have tall toe rails. The bow lounge pairs a bench over a storage locker with a sunpad whose three backrests rise on gas rams, and the flattened bow gives a level area for anchor and line work.

The flybridge comes with a manual Bimini as standard, with an electro-hydraulic Bimini or a hardtop as options. The hardtop adds a one-touch canvas sunroof and integrated lighting. Up top there is a wet bar with a grill, a sink and a fridge, with an ice maker optional. Wraparound seating surrounds the table, and a large sunpad sits forward of the helm. A third control station can be added in the cockpit.

Inside, the aft galley has an induction cooktop, Corian counters, a concealed dishwasher, a domestic-size fridge-freezer, a microwave oven behind a hinged panel and fiddled crockery drawers. Oak is the only cabinetry finish, but floor colors can be specified. A C-shaped dinette sits on an electric pedestal, its table opens to twice its size, and a TV rises from behind the opposite sofa. The lower deck has three cabins and two heads. The full-beam master has a walk-in wardrobe, a settee and an ensuite with a rainfall shower. The forward VIP has a queen island bed, opening portholes and an escape hatch. Its ensuite has a separate shower stall and also serves as the day head and the bathroom for the twin cabin, which offers over 6 ft of headroom. A combination washer-dryer completes the layout.
