Boat Features

The Azimut 42 reaches buyers in two distinct forms. The current Verve 42 is the smallest boat in the Azimut range, an outboard-powered weekender with racy exterior lines by Francesco Struglia and the strip hull glazing that marks the Verve family. The earlier Azimut 42 is a classic flybridge cruiser, recognizable by its teardrop windows and raked radar arch, built as a Mediterranean-style stern-to layout. Shoppers searching for an Azimut 42 for sale, whether a 2002 or 2005 flybridge or the newer Verve, are looking at very different boats under one model number.

The Verve 42 is built with a fiberglass hull from the rubrail down to keep the center of gravity low, while everything above the rubrail and the decks is carbon fiber laminated with vinylester resin to cut weight and allow the wide carbon hardtop. The hull is a Michael Peters design with a double step and a ventilated tunnel for reduced drag. Power is triple Mercury outboards — V10 400 or 450 Racing engines — producing a combined 1,350 horsepower, with joystick control, Skyhook position hold and a bow thruster. Top speed is 45 knots with a cruising speed around 33 to 35 knots. Carrying roughly 462 to 474 US gallons of gasoline (about 1,800 litres) plus a separate 34 to 35-gallon diesel tank for the Kohler 11kW generator, the Verve 42 has a range of about 200 nautical miles. Humphree trim blades replace conventional trim tabs, and a Seakeeper gyro stabilizer steadies the boat at rest and underway.

The Verve 42 helm carries three custom bucket seats, with the center captain's chair adjustable electrically fore-and-aft and up-and-down, and a windshield with no mullions for clear sightlines to the horizon. Twin Raymarine displays manage navigation, tank levels for both fuel systems, battery status, bilge and power alarms, and dimmable lighting for every zone of the boat. Glazed side windows at water level let a solo skipper judge the hull-to-dock gap during touch-and-go pickups. Power management — generator start, shore-power switchover, engine ignitions and electrically actuated battery switches — is grouped at a single panel by the cockpit entrance.

The cockpit centers on a signature table that recesses completely flush into the deck, raises to a dining height with a fitted leatherette cover, or sits mid-height with filler cushions to form a sunbed. A galley unit offers two Kenyon grills, a sink, refrigerator and ice maker, and a port-side beach door folds the bulwark down to a swim patio at water level. The asymmetric deck routes a walkway up the port side only, allowing a full-beam windshield and a forward sun pad seating four adults with articulating backrests. Three insulated, drainable iceboxes are spread across the cockpit and bow, and a transom locker stores a Seabob and inflatable paddleboard with two GFCI sockets for charging.

The Verve 42 interior sleeps four across two cabins sharing one oversized head with a rain shower and Techma system. A forward dinette drops electrically and fills in to a V-berth with a 42-inch TV behind the mirror and a spring-loaded blackout screen for privacy. The midship main cabin sits a level lower with a door, full standing height at entry, an opening porthole, air conditioning and its own TV. The compact galley to port has a single-burner cooktop and a convection microwave, standard equipment across Azimut.

The classic Azimut 42 flybridge is the boat to weigh for a more traditional cruiser. It carries an open-plan saloon with a high-gloss woodwork interior, a lower galley with a full-size fridge, Corian counters, double sinks and a ceramic cooktop, plus reverse-cycle air conditioning and diesel central heating. The master cabin has an ensuite with a wraparound shower and vacuum-flush head, with a second twin cabin sharing a Jack-and-Jill bathroom. On deck it offers wide side decks, a Besenzoni hydraulic passerelle that doubles as a tender crane, a GRP bathing platform and a sociable flybridge reached by molded steps. For Azimut 42 flybridge shoppers, the build quality, full-beam glass and genuine accommodation define its appeal.
