The new sport SX210 and watersports AR210 feature longer and wider bow seating, a new helm area, new storage areas, more drink holders, and an overall look that is more luxurious. The boat is more spacious throughout and features a new ergonomically designed signature stern area for maximized comfort.
Innovative New Deck Design
The bow and cockpit of the 210 Series is now roomier and easier to navigate with a full crew on board, giving the 210 Series the look and feel of a much larger boat. The bow is wider and longer to better accommodate more passengers and the seating can be rearranged several innovative ways depending on cushion placement. The new 210 Series comes with Yamaha exclusive front-facing “rumble” seats that are a favorite with kids. The anchor/ladder locker is also larger, making access to the anchor and ladder more convenient. Finishing the bow are two stereo speakers and two cup holders.
Featured in the cockpit area is a huge port console locker and massive under seat storage. These high capacity compartments are large enough to store a full-size cooler, several PFDs and much more.
In addition, there is an extra large floor storage compartment perfect for storing wakeboards, skis, ropes, PFDs, and dock bumpers.
The sporty helm layout includes large analog gauges and integrated digital information displays that provide independently controlled access to a wide range of information. Also at the helm is Yamaha’s No Wake Mode™ that allows the driver to easily set an optimal speed for navigating a no wake zone.
Completing the helm area is a comfortable, adjustable Captain’s Chair with a flip-up bolster, a premium sound system with a remote at the stern and 4 speakers, and cup holders that are positioned throughout the cockpit. The AR210 receives a new fold-down aluminum watersport tower that makes storage more convenient and the SX210 now comes with dual Captain’s Chairs.
Award-Winning Stern Lounge Area
The new two-tier stern lounge area and swim platform of the 210 Series is more spacious and lower to the water than ever, making the stern area a great place to hang out when anchored in your favorite cove. The stern lounge area includes a mount for the 210’s dinette table, a rear stereo remote, padded back rests, hydro-turf® deck mats, cup holders and a reboarding ladder. There’s even a wet storage locker where wet ropes or small inflatables can be stored without having to carry them through the boat.
Yamaha’s Signature Drive Train and Engine Package
The key feature that has the 210 Series outperforming its competition is Yamaha’s unique internal drive system that utilizes a lightweight, compact engine package and a simple design to deliver better performance and more peace of mind than traditional stern drive models. Yamaha’s ultra-responsive internal drive system brings the 210 Series on plane faster and accelerates quicker than comparable stern drive boats. The 210’s dual throttles allow for maximum maneuverability and engine control, while the shallow draft and enclosed impellers increase the boat’s versatility. Yamaha’s twin engines require regular unleaded fuel and use an average of two gallons of fuel less per hour than comparable stern drive boats.
Also new for Yamaha in 2012 is a thrust directional enhancer that maximizes control and maneuverability. This new design directs the water flow at an optimum angle, creating more responsive handling as the boat is turned right and left at slow speeds.

Yamaha SX210: BoatTEST Review
Overview
The Yamaha 210 series, which includes the SX-210 and the AR-210 with a wakeboard tower, is designed to offer versatility and value. This model aims to serve as a family runabout, water sports platform, and entertainment boat, combining performance with practical features. The test captain from BowTest.com evaluated the boat's handling, performance, and design to assess how well Yamaha achieved these goals.
Exterior Design and Deck Layout
Measuring 21 feet 3 inches in length overall with a beam of 8 feet 6 inches and a shallow draft of 1 foot 5 inches without the outdrive, the 210 series presents a roomy and well-thought-out deck layout. The bow area is notably spacious, featuring dual forward-facing lounge seats that are 1 foot 10 inches wide and 4 feet long, with 2 feet 1 inch of space between them allowing passengers to face each other comfortably. Padded bolsters wrap around the seating, and recessed speakers enhance the entertainment experience. The bow can be converted into three-across seating or a large sun pad using filler cushions, with storage compartments beneath the seats. A step up to the foredeck leads to an anchor locker combined with a reboarding ladder, secured by a shaped bracket under the hatch cover. The walk-through to the cockpit is protected by a closeable windshield and a lower air dam that folds flush when not in use.
Interior Living Spaces and Helm Features
The cockpit features J-shaped seating wrapping around a removable pedestal table, with ample storage under the seats extending to the transom. Additional storage includes a 38-quart carry-on cooler integrated into the port console and a deep glove compartment on top of the same console. The helm station is equipped with a premium vinyl-wrapped steering wheel on a tilt base, dual tachometers, and a 4.3-inch Connext touchscreen providing comprehensive data such as water depth, fuel levels, RPM, speed, and trip information. Rocker switches with circuit breakers and an Infinity Bluetooth stereo system enhance functionality and comfort. The helm seat is designed for versatility, sliding and swiveling 180 degrees with premium marine-grade upholstery. Protection from the elements is provided by a bimini top on the SX model and an arch-in bimini on the AR version.
Power and Performance
Powered by twin Yamaha TR-1 HO engines, the 210 series delivers impressive performance. These lightweight, compact, and fuel-efficient three-cylinder engines are 40% smaller and 20% lighter than previous models while producing more power. During testing with a total estimated weight of 3,892 pounds (including full fuel and two passengers), the boat reached a top speed of 43.8 miles per hour at 7,800 RPM. Fuel consumption at this speed was 17.3 gallons per hour, providing a cruising range of approximately 114 miles. More economical cruising speeds between 6,000 and 6,500 RPM resulted in fuel burns of 11.7 to 13.1 gallons per hour with only a slight reduction in range. The articulating keel enhances handling by enabling straight tracking, improved turning, and off-throttle steering. The boat demonstrated excellent stability and responsiveness even in calm conditions with crossing wakes, making it suitable for family use and water sports.
Stern and Maintenance Features
The stern design is characteristic of Yamaha, featuring a two-tiered seating area with padded backs and premium vinyl upholstery. Non-skid surfaces are applied to both decks, and the removable cockpit table can be relocated to the stern seating area. Two center-mounted grab handles facilitate safe reboarding via a concealed ladder positioned centrally, which is safer than typical outdrive locations. Maintenance is simplified by accessible engine compartments with ample space for routine checks. A clean-out port at the stern allows easy removal of debris from the jet pump impellers via a hatch with a quarter-turn plug. An engine cut-off switch is integrated for safety when the hatch is opened. The battery switch is conveniently located under the port side cockpit seat.
Conclusion
The Yamaha 210 series successfully combines versatility, performance, and thoughtful design features to create a well-rounded boat suitable for families, water sports enthusiasts, and entertainers. Its spacious layout, premium materials, advanced engine technology, and responsive handling make it a compelling option in its class. The inclusion of practical storage solutions, safety features, and ease of maintenance further enhance its appeal. Overall, the 210 series exemplifies Yamaha's commitment to delivering value and adaptability in a compact, efficient package.
