Her teak deck is in excellent condition, and the central cockpit is comfortable, providing a spacious and well protected. The ketch rig divides the sail plan between the mainmast and mizzen, making sail handling easily manageable and giving plenty of flexibility in stronger winds.
Down below deck, Walkabout is surprisingly spacious, with a comfortable U-shaped seating area, which can easily be made into a double bed, and portside settee, serving as an extra berth when needed, as well as the extra wide shelf above, which also serves as a bunk if needed.
A folding table that comfortably seats 8, completes the dining area, with much storage behind and underneath the settees.

- Up forward of the second head, the v-berth is very spacious, with fabric pockets lining the wooden sides, adding to the cupboard space provided. Steps leading up and out of the overhead hatch is a welcome addition.
Accommodation
Walkabout features a spacious 3-cabin layout, highlighted by an exceptionally large aft owner's cabin with numerous windows that create a bright and airy interior. The aft cabin includes a vanity table, generous seating area, fold-out work table, excellent storage and a private ensuite head.
Forward of the salon is the crew cabin, fitted with (2) single bunk berths with lee cloths. Further forward is the second head and spacious V-berth, which includes a filler cushion to create a very large double berth. Fabric storage pockets line the wooden hull sides, supplementing the ample cupboard space, while steps provide convenient access through the forward deck hatch.
Additional sleeping accommodations are available in the salon. The U-shaped settee converts into a large double berth, while the portside settee and wide shelf above can also serve as additional berths when required.

Owners Comments and Boat History
Walkabout was purchased in excellent condition in San Diego, California, in 2004 from her second owners. Her first owners primarily sailed her around the San Francisco Bay area, while her second owners used her mainly as a floating residence in Marina Del Rey and later San Diego. The current owner became her third owner and has used her extensively for long-distance cruising.
The original teak deck was replaced at Yatlift Boatyard in Turkey in 2011/2012.
Walkabout's original electronics included B&G sailing instruments together with Sitex radar and chartplotter equipment. The Sitex chartplotter was replaced with a Raymarine C90W, along with a new depth, speed and seawater-temperature sensor (2010).
Following failure of the older radar system, the radar and chartplotter were subsequently upgraded to the current Raymarine Axiom and Quantum 2 system. The current arrangement provides integrated radar and chartplotter functionality. (2) Raymarine i70 instruments were also installed, while the original B&G wind displays were retained (2022).
The original Perkins diesel remained in service for approximately 35 years before being replaced with the current Volvo Penta D75 (2017). The owner estimates approximately 700 engine hours based on the vessel's detailed logbooks.
During the COVID-19 restrictions, Walkabout remained in the British Virgin Islands for several months beginning in February 2020. A delivery crew later moved her from Virgin Gorda to Red Hook, where an incident during docking caused damage to an adjacent vessel and minor cosmetic damage to Walkabout. The navigation light damaged during the incident was replaced, and the remaining cosmetic scratches were repaired at St. David's Grenada Marine (2022).
Since 2023, Walkabout has continued cruising extensively throughout the Caribbean, including multiple trips to Martinique, St. Lucia and the Grenadines. Her most recent cruise took place in March 2026, when she was sailed single-handed to the Tobago Cays and Canouan before returning.
The owner was originally drawn to the Wauquiez Amphitrite 43 after seeing the model at a Paris boat show in the 1980s. Its elegant lines, center cockpit, ketch sail plan and renowned Wauquiez construction made a lasting impression. More than 20 years later, when the opportunity arose to take a sabbatical with family and young children, the Amphitrite 43 remained the secure and comfortable cruising yacht the owner had envisioned.
Walkabout has cruised extensively across Pacific, Caribbean and Mediterranean waters. Her voyages have included passages from California to Panama, as well as extensive exploration throughout the Caribbean and Mediterranean. She was shipped across the Atlantic in both directions while the owner's available leave was dedicated to sailing and exploring.
Since returning to the Caribbean in 2012, Walkabout has primarily been based in Grenada, chosen for its location near the southern edge of the hurricane belt and its established marine-service facilities. She has cruised repeatedly throughout the island chain from Grenada to the Virgin Islands, as well as Tobago.
A longer voyage in 2019 took Walkabout as far as Haiti, Santiago de Cuba, Jamaica and Curaçao, where she was safely hauled for hurricane season. She subsequently returned to Grenada during the challenging circumstances of the COVID period in 2020.
After more than 20 years of ownership and extensive cruising, the owner is now ready to pass Walkabout on to a new skipper and hopes she will continue to provide the same sense of adventure, enjoyment and satisfaction that she has offered throughout their years together.
