The PowerBoat Guide had this to say:
A strong-selling boat with over 100 delivered, Viking got it right with the 53 Convertible, a balanced blend of handsome styling, luxurious accommodations, and solid performance. She was built on a low-deadrise, modified-V hull with a wide beam and a shallow keel for directional stability. Several interior layouts were available during her production run. The original galley-up floorplan has three staterooms and two heads on the lower level with the master stateroom to starboard. In 1992 an angled double bed replaced the single berths in the forward stateroom, and the last layout-introduced in 1993-has a walk-around queen bed in the bow stateroom. The beautifully appointed interior of the Viking 53 was lavish indeed by the standards of her day, especially for a sportfishing yacht. The cockpit features a full tackle center, transom door, in-deck fish box, and access to a huge engine-room. The flybridge is equally large and features well-conceived helm console. Updates in 1997 included restyled (frameless) deckhouse windows and an extended flybridge.

Spacious Interior: The layout provides ample living space with a well-designed salon, multiple staterooms, and a fully equipped galley, ideal for extended trips.

Stylish Design: The classic lines and distinctive style of the Viking enhance its aesthetic appeal, making it a standout in the marina.
Cons
Fuel Consumption: As a larger vessel with powerful engines, fuel consumption can be higher compared to smaller boats, which may lead to increased operating costs.
Maintenance Requirements: The quality construction necessitates regular maintenance to keep the boat in optimal condition, potentially leading to higher upkeep costs.
Size and Maneuverability: At 53 feet, the size of the boat can make it less maneuverable in tight spaces or smaller docking areas, requiring more skill to operate.
Older Technology: As a 1990 model, some onboard systems and technology may be outdated, necessitating renovations or upgrades for modern convenience and efficiency.
Resale Value: While Vikings generally maintain their value well, the specific market for older models may present challenges in resale compared to newer yachts.
Weather Exposure: Being a convertible, the cockpit can be susceptible to the elements, and some may prefer a fully enclosed flybridge for better protection during inclement weather.
