When a suitable West Coast option under $500k couldn’t be found, the pursuit led to South Florida, where this particular 48 stood out as the best available. With Viking’s renowned build quality, performance pedigree, and enduring resale value, the decision was easy—but the vision didn’t stop there.
As an avid Avalon Tuna Club member, the owner set out to tailor the boat specifically for serious Pacific angling. The impressive 16'6" beam and expansive 130-square-foot cockpit provided the perfect foundation, but key enhancements were needed. The result: a custom-built Blue Water transom bait tank—engineered and installed over a meticulous two-year process—creating a true sportfishing weapon for Southern California waters. Two additional in-deck live wells round out a highly capable bait system, Glendinning electronic cockpit controls, cockpit freezer, cockpit sink and tackle locker.
Beyond fishability, the boat has undergone a comprehensive cosmetic and mechanical evolution. Known gelcoat issues common to this era were addressed head-on, with a full cockpit re-gelcoat completed in 2022, followed by professional painting of the house, foredeck, and windshield in 2023. The result is a clean, modern appearance that matches her legendary lines.
Inside, the upgrades continue: new carpeting, headliner, washer/dryer, updated TVs, air conditioning, and a new inverter in 2024 bring comfort and livability to a new level. A new Northern Lights generator was installed in 2023, and in April 2026, she received a full suite of new Garmin electronics, along with a 10’ dinghy and 1000 lb davit—making her equally ready for cruising or extended stays.
