"Mundy Mooring" is a fine example of the legendary Viking 48 Convertible, and it's rigged for the West Coast. Fresh 2026 Garmin electronics package; in 2022, the cockpit was re-gel coated, in 2023, the house and foredeck were painted; West Coast Bluewater transom bait tank; 2017 10' AB dinghy and Marquip 1000lb davit, 2023 Northern Lights 11.5kw generator.
The second-generation Viking 48 Convertible (2002-2009) represents a complete evolution of the model, reimagined from the ground up with a more contemporary profile, flowing lines, and a commanding 16'6" beam. Moving away from the angular styling of its predecessor, this generation embraces a softer, more modern aesthetic while delivering the performance, durability, and luxury that define the Viking name.
Widely regarded as one of the most successful mid-size sportfishers of its era, the 48 Convertible strikes an ideal balance between tournament capability and refined cruising comfort. Her sweeping sheerline and beautifully proportioned profile give her a timeless presence on the water, while the generous beam translates into exceptional interior volume and livability.
Inside, the yacht offers a thoughtfully designed two-stateroom, two-head layout-each with private access and separate stall showers-creating a level of comfort typically reserved for larger vessels. Frameless, tinted deckhouse windows bathe the salon in natural light, highlighting the rich warmth and meticulous finish of the varnished teak joinery. The ambiance is both inviting and sophisticated, complemented by a built-in home-theater entertainment system that enhances time spent aboard.
The salon's L-shaped lounge features clever rod and reel storage, blending functionality with comfort. Forward, the U-shaped galley is both practical and elegant, appointed with solid-surface countertops, recessed appliances, and premium Sub-Zero deep-drawer refrigeration. The adjacent dinette comfortably seats four, making it ideal for casual dining or entertaining.
Engineering That Sets the Standard
Drawing on proven design elements from the highly successful Viking 55, 61, and 52, the 48 Convertible benefits from a lineage of advanced engineering and performance refinement. The helm offers outstanding visibility and intuitive control, featuring electronic controls and power-assisted steering for precise handling in all conditions. Palm Beach-style controls make docking and close-quarters maneuvering effortless, while maintaining ample storage within the console.
Below deck, the yacht's robust construction is evident in every detail. Powder-coated structural steel I-beam engine beds are securely mounted to transverse bulkheads, minimizing vibration and ensuring long-term drivetrain alignment. The refined running surface, complete with a carefully engineered fairbody, delivers impressive stability, efficient planing, and a smooth, confident ride.
The result is a yacht that not only looks exceptional but performs with authority-equally at home chasing gamefish offshore or cruising in comfort with family and friends.

From bow to stern, this 48 Viking has been transformed into an exceptional blend of performance, reliability, and West Coast fishability. Since acquiring her in 2015, the current owner has taken a no-compromise approach—methodically upgrading, refining, and maintaining nearly every system onboard to a standard rarely found in boats of this vintage.
The journey began with a nationwide search for the right platform. When a suitable West Coast option under $500k couldn’t be found, the pursuit led to South Florida, where this particular 48 stood out as the best available. With Viking’s renowned build quality, performance pedigree, and enduring resale value, the decision was easy—but the vision didn’t stop there.
As an avid Avalon Tuna Club member, the owner set out to tailor the boat specifically for serious Pacific angling. The impressive 16'6" beam and expansive 130-square-foot cockpit provided the perfect foundation, but key enhancements were needed. The result: a custom-built Blue Water transom bait tank—engineered and installed over a meticulous two-year process—creating a true sportfishing weapon for Southern California waters. Two additional in-deck live wells round out a highly capable bait system, Glendinning electronic cockpit controls, cockpit freezer, cockpit sink and tackle locker.
Beyond fishability, the boat has undergone a comprehensive cosmetic and mechanical evolution. Known gelcoat issues common to this era were addressed head-on, with a full cockpit re-gelcoat completed in 2022, followed by professional painting of the house, foredeck, and windshield in 2023. The result is a clean, modern appearance that matches her legendary lines.
Inside, the upgrades continue: new carpeting, headliner, washer/dryer, updated TVs, air conditioning, and a new inverter in 2024 bring comfort and livability to a new level. A new Northern Lights generator was installed in 2023, and in April 2026, she received a full suite of new Garmin electronics, along with a 10’ dinghy and 1000 lb davit—making her equally ready for cruising or extended stays.
Mechanically, she has been maintained with discipline and expertise. The MAN engines have received their scheduled 1000-hour services without exception, with the most recent annual service in March 2026.
The end result is striking. She presents with beautiful proportions, a commanding presence, and a level of care that’s immediately evident. More than just a boat, she has been the centerpiece of a decade of unforgettable family experiences on the water.
Now, she’s ready to deliver the same to her next owner.
