This 1981 Viking 43 Aft Cabin offers something increasingly difficult to find in a classic motoryacht: the timeless construction, spacious layout and character of an older Viking combined with extensive upgrades to the systems that matter most. Rather than simply maintaining the boat, the current owners have continually improved her for comfortable, dependable cruising. Both naturally aspirated Detroit Diesel 6-71s have undergone in-frame rebuilds, with approximately 77 hours SMOH on the port engine and approximately 850 hours SMOH on the starboard.
For extended cruising and time away from the dock, she is equipped with a 600-watt solar array, 300Ah Battle Born lithium house bank, Victron solar charging and monitoring, and a 3000-watt inverter. The house bank is completely separate from the two dedicated 8D engine starting batteries. Add a 12' RIB with 15hp Mercury four-stroke, 33kg Rocna Vulcan anchor with 200' of chain, rebuilt Ideal windlass, anchor washdown, updated autopilot hydraulics, newer reverse-cycle HVAC, full-size AC/DC refrigerator and numerous recent plumbing and electrical upgrades, and this Viking is equipped for far more than an occasional weekend at the dock.
The result is a classic Viking that has already had substantial investment made in many of the expensive systems buyers of older motoryachts typically face after purchase. Whether the plan is coastal cruising, extended trips, living aboard or simply enjoying weekends on the water, this 43DC combines the room and solid feel of a classic Viking with the equipment and upgrades of a much more modern cruising boat.
