Triton 206 Allure: BoatTEST Review

Reviewed by Jeff Hammond

Overview

The Triton 206 Allure is a premium, efficient ski boat designed to accommodate the needs of active families who enjoy on-the-water activities. Combining fishing functionality with recreational versatility, this model offers a thoughtfully designed layout, quality construction, and a range of power options to suit different preferences.

Exterior Design and Deck Layout

At the bow, the casting deck measures approximately 6 feet 9 inches at its widest point and 4 feet 7 inches from the trolling motor foot pedal to the console. Optional twin bow cushions enhance comfort for leisure use, while two sockets allow for portable seating to facilitate access to the foot pedal, which can also be recessed if desired. Standard equipment includes a Minn Kota 112 trolling motor with iPilot station, a cup holder, and a tool rack with space for an optional fish finder up to 12 inches. Navigation lights and outboard motor trim switches are conveniently located to starboard. The bow area also features ample storage, including a centrally located locker reinforced with gas struts that accommodates twelve 8-foot rods, as well as an aerated 10-gallon bait well with an open locker forward. Additional compartments on the port side provide further storage options, with locker openings measuring 15 inches wide and lengths of 33 inches starboard and 47 inches port. The boat is equipped with six 4-inch pull-up cleats and has a freeboard height of 26 inches fore and aft. The wraparound windshield stands 4 feet above the deck and includes a center section that opens for easy passage between consoles.

Cockpit and Seating

The aft cockpit spans 6 feet 8 inches in width with a midship depth of 24 inches. Seating arrangements include aft jump seats and four bucket seats, accommodating six passengers above the windshield. The seats are designed to allow passengers to turn and sit in multiple positions, offering versatility for fishing, water sports, or cruising. Optional features include snap-in carpeting and a stand-up fishing top. The port console houses a locking glove box and a 12-volt power outlet, with additional storage beneath the companion's footrest. Rod storage is well thought out, with racks and bungees to secure multiple rods of varying lengths on both port and starboard sides. The starboard helm features an optional 10-inch Lowrance fish finder and space for screens up to 12 inches. Instrumentation includes a speedometer with integrated volt monitor, water pressure and trim gauges, and a tachometer with fuel gauge. Controls are logically arranged with circuit breakers, ignition, accessory, and livewell switches, as well as shift and throttle levers. Dedicated space is provided for kicker motor controls. Additional amenities include cup holders and draining storage trays.

Aft Deck and Swim Platforms

The aft casting deck measures 6 feet 11 inches wide, narrowing to 15.5 inches at the center and 21 inches at the sides. Aft jump seats add seating capacity, while swim platforms on each side measure 11 inches and 13 inches wide respectively. A three-step ladder is mounted to starboard, with the option to install it to port. The boat accommodates an optional kicker motor on either side. A remote-controlled drain plug located on the aft deck eliminates the need to crawl beneath the motor for draining. Beneath a large center hatch in the aft deck lies a 30-gallon livewell equipped with a removable divider, two aerator pumps, and two recirculation pumps, each rated at 800 gallons per hour. The hatch would benefit from a gas strut or tension hinge to hold it open securely.

Power and Performance

The Triton 206 Allure offers a choice between two-stroke Evinrude E-Tech G2 engines in 225 and 250 horsepower variants, and four-stroke Mercury outboards ranging from 200 to 250 horsepower. The test boat was fitted with a 250-horsepower Mercury four-stroke engine mounted on a 6-inch jack plate and equipped with Seastar hydraulic steering. The boat measures 20 feet 6 inches in length with an 8-foot 4-inch beam and has an empty weight of 2,626 pounds. Test conditions included two passengers, 22.8 gallons of fuel, and equipment, resulting in an estimated weight of 3,688 pounds. Powered by a 14.5-inch by 21-inch Tempest three-blade stainless steel propeller, the boat achieved a top speed of 59 miles per hour at 5,900 RPM. The optimal cruising speed was 24.9 miles per hour at 3,000 RPM, with a fuel consumption of 6 gallons per hour, yielding approximately 4.2 miles per gallon and a range of 214 statute miles while maintaining a 10% fuel reserve. Acceleration tests showed planing in 3.1 seconds, reaching 20 miles per hour in 4.7 seconds, and 30 miles per hour in 6.6 seconds. The boat exhibited no transom wash during rapid deceleration. Stability and ride quality are enhanced by wide chine flats that deflect spray and flotation foam that reduces noise and provides level flotation when swamped. Handling is predictable and solid in turns and wave crossings, making the 206 Allure an enjoyable and easy boat to operate.

Trailer and Launching Features

The boat is paired with a premium Tandalaxum steel trailer featuring a road armor finish that matches the quality of the vessel. The trailer includes diamond plate steps ahead of the fenders with integrated lighting, a swing-away tongue, and three steps to facilitate boarding at the bow. A pole is provided to assist with boarding when launching single-handed. Additional features include built-in transom straps, twin disc brakes, load guides, aluminum wheels, radial tires, and a spare wheel, all contributing to ease of transport and launching.

Conclusion

The Triton 206 Allure successfully blends the qualities of a fish and ski boat, offering a versatile platform with numerous optional features to tailor the boat to individual owner preferences. Its solid construction, well-thought-out layout, and strong performance characteristics make it a capable and enjoyable vessel for fishing, water sports, and family cruising alike.
