Tracker Targa V-18 WT: BoatTEST Review

Reviewed by Jeff Hammond

Overview

The Tracker Target V18 WT is a versatile 19-foot fishing and family day boat designed to be fully equipped right from the showroom floor. With a length overall of 19 feet 1 inch and a beam of 102 inches, this boat balances fishing functionality with family-friendly features and safety considerations.

Exterior Design and Deck Layout

The boat features a well-thought-out deck layout with both aft and forward casting decks. The aft casting deck includes four compartments, courtesy lights on both sides, livewells on either side with space for a bait bucket behind, and easy access to the batteries. Stability is maintained when moving about the casting deck, which also offers top-loading rod storage lockers in the gunnels capable of accommodating rods up to 8 feet. The forward casting deck provides storage to starboard, a livewell with bait bucket to port, and additional storage for the foot control and tackle. Cargo net storage is positioned to the sides, and courtesy lighting is included at the forward panel. The cockpit is equipped with five pedestal bases and index storage, along with padded seating at the bow for relaxation. Wide 11-inch cap rails with non-skid pads enhance boarding safety, complemented by grab handles on the platform for easy re-boarding from the water.

Helm and Console Features

The helm is designed with a wraparound windshield that offers clear, distortion-free visibility and effective wind deflection. The dashboard includes a faux carbon fiber panel with white-faced gauges set in chrome bezels, a Lowrance Mark 5X Pro fishfinder, and lighted toggle switches. The ignition is positioned on the left-hand side, and the three-spoke steering wheel is mounted on a tilt base. Additional features under the helm console include a speaker and a dedicated compartment for a fire extinguisher. The port console contains a storage compartment with a 12-volt supply, a self-draining cooler, and a glove box with an integrated stereo. Under-gunnel storage is available on both sides, enhancing organization.

Power and Performance

Powered by a 150 horsepower Mercury four-stroke engine paired with a 14 1/4 by 18 inertia propeller, the Tracker Target V18 WT delivers strong performance. During testing with a total weight of 2,845 pounds (including full fuel, two people, and test power), the boat reached a top speed of 45.5 miles per hour at 5,500 RPM, consuming 13.9 gallons per hour and providing a range of 118 miles. The most efficient cruise speed was 21 miles per hour at 3,000 RPM, reducing fuel consumption to 3.8 gallons per hour and extending the range to 199 miles with an endurance of 9 hours and 30 minutes while maintaining a 10% fuel reserve. The boat planes quickly, achieving planing in 2.8 seconds, accelerating to 20 miles per hour in 4.9 seconds, and reaching 30 miles per hour in 7.2 seconds. The bow rises 11 degrees upon acceleration but quickly settles back down. Handling is responsive with reverse chines that allow the boat to lean only 10 degrees into turns. While the boat loses some speed in turns, adding power during turns helps maintain momentum. If speed is allowed to drop, the boat can spin out before accelerating off in a new direction. When power is reduced, the boat settles stern-first into the water.

Safety and Family-Friendly Features

The Tracker Target V18 WT emphasizes safety with its deep cockpit depth and wide cap rails with non-skid pads, which provide secure footing. Grab handles on the platform facilitate easy re-boarding from the water, making it suitable for family use. The boat’s design and features collectively contribute to a secure and comfortable experience for anglers and families alike.

Conclusion

The Tracker Target V18 WT proves to be a well-rounded fishing and family boat that is ready to use immediately without the need for additional component shopping. It combines thoughtful storage, fishing amenities, solid performance, and safety features into a compact and efficient package. While it excels as a fishing platform, it also serves well as a family day boat, with the only notable absence being a dedicated cooler. Overall, the boat lives up to its reputation as a turnkey fishing vessel with family-friendly characteristics.
