Tracker Pro Team 170 TX: BoatTEST Review
Overview
The Bass Tracker ProTeam 170 TX 30th Anniversary Edition is a nimble and well-equipped aluminum bass boat designed to combine fishability with comfort. Featuring updated heritage graphics and new three-across bench seating, this model continues Tracker's leadership in the aluminum boat market. It comes with a custom factory-matched GalvaShield trailer that includes a swing-away tongue for convenient transport.
Exterior Design and Deck Layout
At the bow, the ProTeam 170 TX offers a spacious main casting deck equipped with a 12-volt, 46-pound MotorGuide trolling motor featuring a fixed-position foot control centrally located for ease of use. The bow deck is padded to enhance safety when boarding from the trailer. Storage is well thought out, with matching drive storage compartments on either side for gear such as jackets, gloves, and tackle. A centrally positioned locking rod locker accommodates rods up to seven feet, secured with bungee straps. The stern casting deck is notably large for a boat of this size, providing ample room for fishing activities. Additional features include Tracker's EZ-Fill fuel system, a large A-rated divided livewell, and separate access compartments for the fuel tank, batteries, and electrical connections.
Interior and Seating
The cockpit features a fully molded one-piece dash with a low-profile, easily removable tinted windshield. Steering is managed via a fixed-position three-spoke wheel, complemented by new dash gauges set in aluminum-look panels for a modern aesthetic. The seating arrangement includes a new three-across bench seat that is both comfortable and practical. This pinch-free fold-down seat design incorporates two drink holders in the center seat and flips forward to reveal additional storage space beneath.
Power and Performance
Powered by a Mercury 50 horsepower outboard engine, the ProTeam 170 TX weighs approximately 764 pounds and measures 16 feet 4 inches in length with a beam of 6 feet 9 inches. Despite carrying only 18 gallons of fuel, the boat delivers impressive range and handling. During testing on a calm, warm day, the boat achieved a top speed of 33.4 miles per hour at 5,400 RPM. The optimal cruising speed was found to be around 24 miles per hour at 4,000 RPM, while the most economical speed was 19.9 miles per hour, providing an estimated range of 161 miles. The boat proved to be easy to maneuver around docks and shorelines, making it well-suited for bass fishing excursions.
Conclusion
The Bass Tracker ProTeam 170 TX 30th Anniversary Edition offers a well-rounded package for anglers seeking a lightweight, maneuverable bass boat with thoughtful features and solid performance. Its combination of comfortable seating, ample storage, and efficient powertrain make it a practical choice for fishing enthusiasts.
