Tiara 4300 Sovran (2006-) Captain's Report

By Chris Kourtakis For over four decades Tiara has been pursuing the ultimate goal of perfection when it comes to building yachts. Tiara’s 4300 Sovran is no different. With the help of state-of-the-art technology and cutting edge design, the 4300 Sovran is the first boat in Tiara’s line that was designed around Volvo’s all new Inboard Propulsion System (IPS). IMPRESSIVE HANDLING AND PERFORMANCE The all new IPS system helped the Sovran 4300 reach 3000 rpm in only 8 seconds, and an ideal cruising speed of 28.6 mph at 3300 rpm. Since there is no other propulsion system on the market like it, the best way to describe the system is that it can be compared to an airplane propeller. Instead of pushing the boat, the IPS system uses a stern drive like application with dual counter rotating props that face forward. The IPS system eliminates typical shafts, struts and rudders found on traditional inboard systems. Our test on Lake Michigan showed that the IPS system gives it great maneuverability while allowing it to perform well at all speeds. Getting used to captaining the new system will not take long and you will wonder how you ever got along without it. FROM THE STERN UP The large bolt on swim platform has large low-to-the-water stainless steel cleats so that you do not have to jump over dock lines when getting on the boat. The four built-in U-shaped cleats make bringing along your dingy easy. While on the swim platform, you will be able to access the watertight storage trunk that’s large enough to hold 6-8 fenders and your dock lines, or you can use the three-step integrated swim ladder that makes getting out of the water easy. Of course, no luxury yacht would be complete without a “Shore Master� system to help reel in your shore power cord. Accessing the cockpit is easy through the transom door from the swim platform or from the two-step wide gunnels. Once in the cockpit, you’ll be able to enjoy alfresco dining in the U-shaped lounge with removable table. Drop the table down and you have an oversized sun pad to help soak up the sun. If you are not interested in getting a tan, Tiara’s large hardtop will protect you. The large hardtop has built-in deck hatches with easy to use screens and sunshades so that you can enjoy the summer’s breeze. If that is not enough air, then with a push of a button, the power window vent will maximize your air flow needs. A FEW STEPS UP TO THE BRIDGE Stepping up to the bridge deck is easy with the integrated steps and non-slip surface. Once at the top, you will immediately notice the entertainment center on the starboard side of the boat. The cold water sink allows you to mix your favorite drink easily, while the refrigerator allows you to refresh your beverage without having to go into the cabin. The port side raised lounge allows your guests to see 360 degrees with the theatre seating. You will also find a great place to store your charts safely under the heavy duty fiberglass lid. With the push of a button you can move the captain’s chair up and down or back and forth, to insure that you are in complete comfort while skippering the boat. The large classic white helm has plenty of room to host all of your electronics. You will find that the rocker switches have been moved from the dash panel to the starboard side to give you better accessibility, mainly because they are right above the shifter. STEPPING DOWN BELOW The uncompromising L-shaped sofa has large high back seats that allow you to enjoy the Teak wood table and gives you a multitude of functional dining options. To the left of the lounge is the optional cabinet layout with accessible storage and the optional Splendi washer and dryer that is usually found on larger yachts. The chef in your group will enjoy the huge L-shaped galley with full refrigerator and freezer. There’s a built-in spice rack, two stainless steel sinks, two-burner electric stove, and a microwave. Relaxing after your gourmet meal is made simple with the inset flat screen TV with Bose surround sound and DVD player. ACCOMMODATIONS FIT FOR A KING The large and spacious master stateroom has an abundant amount of overhead storage that adorns the queen berth with a gorgeous headboard. The berth has two-sided accessibility and a deck hatch that brings in plenty of natural light. Of course, no luxury suite is complete without a flat screen TV and separate AC controls. In addition to the overhead storage, there is a huge hanging closet, and a large easy-to- access storage compartment. If that’s still not enough, then there’s accessible storage under the V-berth, which lifts easily with the help of two gas assisted shocks. The classy head is accented with a beautiful glass bowl sink. The enclosed shower makes sure that water stays in the shower and not all over the place. Completing the package is a Vacuflush toilet. GUEST CABIN Tucked behind the galley is a full size guest cabin, complete with its own head. The cabin has two twin berths that can be converted into one queen berth if necessary. There is plenty of storage for your guest’s overnight bags. The head also has a touch of luxury with a glass bowl sink and separate shower. Normally on a boat of this size, the guest quarters are small or are not private, but Volvo’s new IPS system has allowed Tiara’s engineers to use their imagination and deliver a beautifully designed guest quarters. POWER PLANT Accessing the engines is as easy as pushing a button. The U-shaped seating in the cockpit lifts to reveal the Volvo IPS system. Finally, there are no cushions or table to remove. Looking at the engine compartment you will definitely notice that there are no drive shafts or transmissions, and that the IPS system gives the engine room a clean look. Along with a clean look, maintaining the engines is easy because they can now be accessed from all sides and the Reverso Oil Change system allows you to change your oil with the flip of a switch. CONCLUSION Tiara has created a yacht that will keep you happy for years and impress all of your friends at the yacht club. Incorporating Volvo’s IPS System for great handling in tight quarters or at high speed in the open waters, plus giving you a private and complete second stateroom, you can see why this boat will make a captain and an entertainer out of anyone.
