The original owner kept her in a covered slip in Virginia until the present owners bought her in the spring of 2020 and brought her to Maryland. She went to Florida and back in 2024/2025 for the winter season. Thoughtful additions include a custom charging station in the chart table, a second charging port at the helm, new EM-Trak AIS Transceiver, robust canvas options including a sunshade and cockpit mooring cover and new AGM batteries and 60 amp ProNautic charger in the summer of 2024. Few domestic builders can match Tiara’s reputation for engineering and quality, and fewer still exceed the company when it comes to timeless design. The 3500 Open is a case in point:
hardly revolutionary in concept, she’s a beautifully crafted express cruiser whose classic styling has held up well over the years. Built on a modified-V hull with a wide 13'3" beam, prop pockets reduce draft and shaft angles. Primarily a cruising boat, the large cockpit of the 3500 Open provides an excellent platform for fishing as well. A transom door, wet bar, and in-deck fish box are standard, and the entire bridge deck rises on hydraulic rams for access to the motors. Belowdecks, the spacious single-stateroom interior of the 3500 Open can only be described as lush, with handcrafted teak joinery, leather upholstery, and a full teak-and-holly cabin sole. Additional features include an L-shaped lounge opposite the helm, aft-facing cockpit seats, an electric windshield vent, an integral swim platform, and a bow pulpit. The optional 370hp Cummins diesels cruise at 25–26 knots and reach a top speed of around 30 knots.

Overview
The Tiara 3500 Sovereign is a thoughtfully designed cruiser aimed at couples seeking a high-quality yacht suitable for extended journeys. This model introduces innovative features that enhance both comfort and functionality, setting a new standard within the Tiara lineup. Its design benefits significantly from the strategic placement of Volvo IPS motors, which allows for expanded salon space without compromising traditional Tiara elements such as a stand-up helm. The enclosed coupe-style hardtop further distinguishes the yacht by providing a comfortable and practical bridge deck environment.
Exterior Design and Cockpit
At the transom, the 3500 Sovereign offers two spacious storage compartments: one housing shore power and water hookups, and another large locker providing ample storage capacity. The swim platform extends 42 inches deep, accommodating water toys and featuring a large three-rung boarding ladder alongside a freshwater shower conveniently located at the transom gate. The lower aft cockpit is furnished with a pair of facing lounges upholstered in rich materials, with generous storage beneath hinged cushions. Forward to starboard, a wet bar includes a sink, faucet, and cutting board, with an option to upgrade to a fridge-freezer combo or an ice maker. The upper cockpit, shaded by a composite hardtop, features an L-shaped companion lounge to port and a modern helm station to starboard. The helm is equipped with digital engine monitoring, navigation displays, a mahogany destroyer wheel, and an IPS joystick, combining functionality with refined aesthetics.
Interior Living Spaces
The salon of the 3500 Sovereign is characterized by dramatic teak joinery and supple ultraleather furnishings, creating a spacious and inviting atmosphere. The portside dinette offers a comfortable area for relaxation and dining, while providing access to the head compartment, which includes a separate shower stall and vanity area. On the starboard side, the galley is well-appointed with overhead storage cabinets, a large work surface with a deep sink, a two-burner cooktop, an undermount refrigerator with freezer, and dual storage drawers, ensuring ample space for meal preparation and storage.
Private Accommodations
The owner’s stateroom features an island-style berth equipped with an innerspring mattress and abundant storage options, including upper cabinets and a storage locker beneath the berth. Large hanging lockers flank both sides of the berth, further enhancing storage capacity. Guests are accommodated in the aft lounge, which converts into a cozy berth suitable for overnight stays and includes a second 20-inch LCD television, providing comfort and convenience for extended cruising.
Power and Performance
Weighing a confident 17,600 pounds, the 3500 Sovereign requires only 30 inches of water to clear the IPS propellers. Measuring 37 feet 9 inches overall with a beam of 12 feet 11 inches, the yacht carries a 250-gallon fuel capacity. During testing in choppy conditions, the diesel-powered Volvo IPS pods demonstrated impressive acceleration comparable to gasoline-powered boats. The vessel achieved a top speed of 35.8 miles per hour at 3,500 rpm and a cruise speed of 28.5 miles per hour at 3,000 rpm. At cruising speed, the yacht offers an estimated range of approximately 311 miles on a full tank, making it well-suited for extended voyages.
Conclusion
After extensive time aboard the Tiara 3500 Sovereign, it is evident that the designers have successfully created a yacht that balances size, comfort, and performance. Its innovative use of Volvo IPS technology, combined with thoughtful interior and exterior design elements, make it an excellent choice for couples seeking a capable cruiser for longer journeys. Prospective buyers are encouraged to experience the 3500 Sovereign firsthand at boat shows or through Tiara dealers.
