Thoroughbred boats were started in 1989 by legendary racer and boat builder Steven Stepp. After leasing the Velocity name to Regal Marine and 4 years after starting Thoroughbred, Steve regained control of Velocity. Designer Steve Stepp's 1-inch wide-pad bottom remains unchanged to this day. When the Factory 1 class first started in offshore racing the 26-foot Velocity/Thoroughbred was the boat to beat, with its combination of speed and superior maneuverability.
