Professionally maintained, This 3800 is a traditional well-crafted Tartan that looks good, is in excellent condition and, most importantly, is fun to sail. Canvas (dodger, bimini, sail and pedestal covers) and laminate sails (main and genoa) were purchased in 2010 but have only two seasons wear.  Service logs are available for all work commissioned by owners.

The 1996 Tartan 3800 is a well-regarded cruiser known for its blend of performance, comfort, and craftsmanship. Here are some of the key pros and cons of this model:

Pros

Solid Construction: Built with high-quality materials and excellent craftsmanship, the Tartan 3800 offers durability and a strong, stiff hull that handles well in various conditions.

Performance-Oriented Design: With a sleek hull and efficient sail plan, it delivers good speed and responsiveness, making it enjoyable for both cruising and club racing.

Comfortable Interior: The interior layout is spacious and thoughtfully designed, featuring ample headroom, a well-equipped galley, and comfortable sleeping accommodations for extended cruising.

Good Upwind Ability: The keel and rudder design allow for excellent upwind performance, which is appreciated by sailors looking for efficient passage-making.

Well-Equipped Deck: The deck layout promotes ease of handling and safety, with well-placed winches and controls accessible from the cockpit.

Strong Community and Support: Tartan owners often benefit from a supportive owner community and access to original manufacturer support.

Cons

Price and Availability: As a high-quality boat from the mid-1990s, the Tartan 3800 can be priced higher than comparable models from other manufacturers, and well-maintained examples may be less common on the market.

Maintenance: Like many boats of its era, the 3800 requires regular upkeep, particularly in maintaining wood trim and ensuring the integrity of the deck and hull seals.

Interior Style: While functional and comfortable, the interior styling may feel somewhat dated compared to more modern designs, which could be a consideration for buyers seeking contemporary aesthetics.

Weight: The solid construction contributes to a relatively heavier displacement, which might affect light wind performance compared to lighter, more modern designs.

Limited Engine Options: Some owners may find the standard engine options less powerful than desired, particularly for extended motoring or challenging conditions.
