Broker's Comment:
At least once a year I list a vessel that just makes you say "Wow!"
"Liberty", this Tartan 28 is just such a vessel. Her owners have been meticulous. She is absolutely spotless from stem to stern. If there were any water in the bilge it would be drinkable, it's that clean. The sellers have retired to the Florida home and the draft of their Tartan is not suitable for their location. "Liberty" has been their Northern home for that last couple of seasons when they visit friends here. Liberty was sold in 2012 to a Buffalo couple who also kept it clean and tidy. Due to a change in family plans, Liberty is up for sale. It is located at the Buffalo Marina and may be seen at any time.
Description:
The Tartan 28 was designed as a racer/cruiser and was a direct replacement for the aging tartan 27. It was in production for 6 years and 136 were built. Accord ing to Art Averell, Tartan's aftermarket sales manager, the Tartan 28 was built "like a tank."
The majority of the hull above and below the waterline is solid fiberglass and is hand laid-up with mat and unidirectional rovings. Those areas of the hull above the waterline from the forward bulkhead to the stem are cored with a combination of end-grain balsa and Coremat. Coremat is a trade name for a microsphere-filled, random-laid, chopped-fiber polyester fabric that, because of its good conformability, is used as a bulking and print control mat and is ideal for adding stiffness to laminates. The boat's gelcoat is NPG/ISO polyester resin. It's backed by vinylester resin for blister and chemical resistance.
